Has anyone heard their calling back some laid off network techs in SW Florida? I heard some rumblings today.

Good chance he may have transferred to another title and left contractors to pick up his old job, except they don't know how to do it. Remember they don't plan for anything, if they wanted to let go a job title and this person found one and was still in the company they of course would want to compensate for his loss by asking him to train the contractors.
Silly people.
Your old job where ?are you retired or laid off. They have to recall laid off people before they can use contractors.
All I know is I have had two managers call me and ask if I will show the contractors how to do my old job. I DON'T THINK SO
If you are a CTL field tech, then upper management simply considers you a huge cost. Instead of finding ways to compete and sell telecom services to improve the bottom line, they focus on finding ways to do more with less of you/us. Incompetent yes-men have been put in charge and a chaotic clown show is what we see now. I know of several markets where only 1 tech is there doing the work of 4. Management loves this idea but it is epic level inefficiency not to mention inhumane/dehumanizing. We're all sheep being managed and lead by hungry wolves. There is no future for you here, even if you are non-union with new school (ethernet, enterprise, metro 2/3, DWDM) background. The good news is that it's a sellers market. The economy is trending upwards. It's been repeated here many times, polish up your resume and start hitting the bricks. Take the blue pill, hang on and wait for that ax to strike-maybe you'll get lucky with a severance package or take the red pill, show Agent Smith who's in charge !
Who knows we have a skeleton crew at this point but nobody cares. Definitely could use a few more bodies
