Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

August All Hands Call - Finally a WIn Win for All

I spoke with Tony recently while attending a dinner event. While discussing business in general and Windstream in particular, he mentioned that he and the rest of the Leadership Team fully understand that morale is well below sea level at Windstream. They also realize that the majority of employees are bitter, overworked and unhappy. Furthermore, this morale concern has gotten the Board of Directors attention and they are finally addressing the issue.
During the scheduled August 'all hands call,' an announcement will be made to address and to improve morale. Windstream will be increasing wages for those that have not had any inflationary adjustment for years immediately. This initiative will target the salaried workers who are ineligible for any other compensation such as sales bonuses, management bonuses and also exempt from OT compensation.
This initiative will be further expanded in coming months to include all non-management and non-bargaining employees as a whole.
This is why the meeting is being held in a single event at the Embassy Suites so all employees hear the good news at the same time. Drinks and snacks to be served following this wonderful announcement.
Finally a Win Win for all !!!!!

""I don’t see chapter 7 for the whole company because of the ILEC. How do you justify liquidating the only service provider for millions of rural customers? I haven’t heard anybody mention this. It’s never happened in the U.S. before.""

Yes, correct, ILEC can't go under, but I do see everything but ILEC being sold off to another company in one or several pieces, or vice versa ILEC being spun off and sold to another big carrier. Either way the company is finished for all intents and purposes.

I was let go recently, outsourced, and like other comments I hadn't had a pay raise in 5 years. What, people might see a .5 or 2% raise when we all should have had 10-15% annualized over the last several years. Now, my old department, the few that are left, they're now implementing all the efficiency ideas and cost reductions (non-layoffs), that we were pushing for several years. id–ts in management, take others ideas, implement them and take credit after 80% of the group is laid off.

I now have a new job with a 45% pay increase. As many others have stated, get out while you can, it's much better outside of Windstream.

Yes it is awesome and a well deserved increase for some. I didn’t receive an increase for 3 years but continued to work my butt off. I received a promotion (small increase) and havent gotten anything else for 2.5 years. Nice to see the leaders paying attention as they aren’t missing any meals. 🙄

I've been at better pep rallys in high school. I just love how they're going to give away free DSL trials so they can meet their KEIP numbers. Using the companies assets to make yourself money is basically stealing.

I have been interviewing for several positions in the Cleveland area and every single position has come in at at least 10% above what I was getting paid at Windstream. I urge everyone to test the waters.

Good strategy, throw some crumbs to the peasants to motivate them. While the top 5 rats have their eyes on the big prize, the 20 million they will split.

Big woop on 3% 1% for 3 years.

Just leave. There are better companies if you have the right skills

Remember, It's a one sided relationship.

I still dont know how real this is. How can people be getting 8% raises? Even if they do this, shouldn't the amounts be based on your performance? With how people have been working adound here, they dont deserve a raise.

Dosent that just incentivize you to leave your job ASAP instead of getting good at it?

"So those of us that worked hard for a very small promotion will get shat on because our pay went up the past 3 years?"

Yes, that is correct. I had this very conversation with my manager. The ONLY way to make more is to job hop internally or externally. This is the new way to get people motivated to grow professionally and financially.

You can't just enjoy the position your in and expect to make great money in the long term.

Why are people so happy for this "raise" when the rats at the top have been pocketing millions for years.

As we say this WS is launching ANOTHER TV service. This after they admitted they couldn't make money on it due to programming fees. Spent millions on equipment so worthless now that they're not even asking the customers to return it when they disconnect. They bought into it knowing it had flopped at AT&T. Now they're spending millions on new streaming equipment knowing the end result will be the same. Yes, business as usual for WS management. Wonder why they're bankrupt.

Where is the money coming from for these raises, Win hasn't had a profit in months.

Why all of a sudden now? There has to be ulterior motives. No way all of a sudden during chapter 11 these rats are doing the right thing. Most likely it's to help them get that bonus, that's the last piece of unfinished business they care about.

I think some of you are living under a rock. Your raise isn’t going to make much of a difference when your job is going to be sent to another company purchasing network assets, or eliminated completely. They’re going to stop selling a ton of products very soon. I’m wondering why it hasn’t happened already. The TDM network will be gone, soon. The CLEC model is no longer profitable unless you're talking about over the top services and SD-WAN. Windstream is losing a ton of money on TDM customers, and next year the ILECS are going to have free will to jack up prices. They have been hinting at this for years, and all you people continue to do is complain about the lack of a raise instead of looking at the big picture. The CEO might be greedy, but Windstream also has excessive amounts of labor overhead. Once they stop selling a bunch of products, they’re not going to pay people for doing nothing.

I have heard they layed down another hammer to some sales in regards to numbers that need to be met. Also they are doing away some some product set after the 1st of the year and also pushing away T&M customers to other vendors.
You really think they are gonna clue us in ?? I smell chapter 7 soon
So yeah enjoy the raise if you get one.

Just checked and looks like I got an 8% bump. If you did not get an increase you better speak up on the All Hands very loudly. could just be an oversight. Make sure TT answers who did and did not get this raise and why!

I don't think I would call this a win-win just yet. We need more detail on this so called wage increase. We're still in bankruptcy, so all decisions will have to be court approved anyway. Plus, what's their grand idea for boosting morale, since they are now blatantly aware (thanks to stream) majority of their employees are bitter, overworked, and unhappy. I gotta hear this...

Only salaried employees who got no increases in the last three years got the 3% adjustment. Hourly – you already got something (small) the last three years. Already adjusted off-calendar – you got what you got. New hire - you got what you got at hire.

The upcoming Town Hall won't be about this. It'll be the usual rah-rah status report, software powerhouse, Gartner Group UCaaS recognition, etc. "Can't comment" on other things still in flight, like the Unity mediation.

It would be a pleasant surprise to FINALLY get a boost to the continuously falling value of my paycheck after several years. Yet, I expect the usual stroking from Exces about all the wonderful things these pukes did single handed and why they, and only they, are deserving of such wealth. No other workers helped them reach these goals and that is why they do not matter, it was all them.
They will then be urging all other 'WIndstreamers' to keep working hard for the future of Windstream. Ironically they cannot tell you where you belong in this envisioned future. They cannot tell you when or if you will ever get a raise. They frankly will not commit to squat !!!
When I think Windstream I picture an employee desperately relieving themselves only to have Leadership blow the urine back onto the employees. Why do you think the logo is Green background with a Yellow squiggle?

It's true. My compensation history shows the increase in pay. Also shows that my last increase was in 2015. So it's nice that they have finally stopped screwing us over (while execs cointinued pulling in big bonuses) but I don't know why you would call this a win-win?

To the poster, I'll believe it when it happens. I know people in Greenville, for the most part do enough to get by. We don't care anymore and looking to be paroled and never look back. No raise in years and you honestly believe what he says is true, you will be very disappointed. I can't speak for all in Greenville but I know the majority feels the same way.

Sounds like one of those 20% off coupons you get in the mail. You read the fine print and find out it doesn't include major brands, mark down or sale items or anything priced over $20. Basically nothing they actually sell in the store. And oh yeah, if the rest of you will just work dawn to dark 7 days a week thru the next 2 quarters we promise we will throw ya a bone after we get our bonus.
