Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

I'm done waiting for severance

I've been stuck here for months always thinking if I leave, I'd be doing them a favor. Better wait it out, for severance. Well, I'm done waiting. I realized it's not worth it. If I leave now, I get to avoid stress, improve my self esteem, and most importantly, stop being associated with UP. Good luck to the rest of you, but I'm done.

You guys get severance pay at Union Pacific for a lay-off? Fill me on the info I work for a different railroad and I’m curious what you may get

I do recommend leaving but do it with another job and a plan. it is better to move on with your life than hanging around praying for six months severance pay. one of the things I noticed when I was at railroad, and I did it myself, was people constantly thinking and talking about lasting until retirement. i only got X years until retirement and then it'll be worth it. eventually you realize you do that for long and you've wasted your whole life at a job that stinks so you could enjoy a few years once you are 60+. i got a job now with a much better quality of life and standard work week. Obviously I still want to retire one day, but I'm not counting down the days anymore.
