Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Looking at exit strategies: What ones include severance pay?

30 year employee near retirement, and ready to get out. What circumstances include a severance payout? Layoff? PIP? Missed yearly goals? Also, what are the rules for using banked illness days (that they won't pay you for when you leave). In other works, how many days can you call in sick without getting fired or have to declare short term disability?

Almost forgot...for sick days...I believe i got 15 days and I literally used them all before I got laid off in April 2018. About 3 months out I knew we were close to my layoff and my new boss pulled rank and had me come in every day due to telecommuting policy being forced more strictly. I call BS and just used all the sick days and 4 weeks vacation from Jan-Apr 2018. I told my new boss to just make sure the layoff was on a Tuesday because that was the day I would always come in.

If I remember correctly, my severance period started the next Monday...so I got paid a free week LOL.

People get packages all the time. 30 years in, I'd definitely not leave without 26 weeks max severance. Do yourself a favor and have a discussion with your boss about either moving your work elsewhere (lower cost regions are a big win for any manager trying to move up the ranks). Work a deal with him to build in the plan over the next year to offload your work to get on the list for next RIF.

That's what I did. It took a lot longer because HR moves at a snails pace. About 1.5 years to get it all done for me. Long story short, they do these all the time in all the departments. You also get packages for PIP's as well. Don't let anyone tell you that you don't. They are lying and probably a mole/shill for the company spreading false info on here. PIP's are probably easier to get a severance. Get yours...you worked too long not to get that 26 months of pay.

Been retired since April 2018. Been awesome...busier than ever...amazing how quick the time fills up when you have all day to do what you want.

Lastly, the severance period still counts towards your pension. They kept matching mine the entire time. You don't get 401k match, at least I didn't. Severance checks came every 2 weeks just like the paychecks. HON healthcare insurance s—s...just do healthcare.gov or private. Mine is the same as it was at Honeywell...I just did Cigna through .gov and it's been awesome.

Good luck.

Fired for cause means no severance. PIP might get you some, if you are in the elbow. If you trust your manager, tell him or her that you want to be RIF'd in the next round and see if you can get your name on the list. Otherwise, don't be greedy and just leave, like so many others. It's worth it for your mental health.
