Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

NorthEast

There is speculation that Centry Link may merge with Dish network. Strategic CO locations would be outfitted with a big sat dish that could provide triple play services for customers within a 13k range. This idea is still in the infancy stages and being kept quiet. My guess would be that if Centry Links ashole is so tight with money right now, they are probably getting the funds together to buy something as I'm familiar with this type behavior. Just keep an eye on the sprint tmobile merger cause as soon as that's complete I forsee all asholes and elbows on deck for 5g deployment as quick as possible. Dish does promote a portable satellite TV product. I dont think this would equate to job security as level 3 is no friend of the tech worker, as you know they love contractors and the satellite TV product from what I seen so far is plug and play self install product. I have no other information other than good or bad sh– news is always announced at the end of financial quarters.

Dish Network already has a steaming service part of their company called “Sling.” It’s been pretty successful and fairly competitive in the streaming market. I do agree the T-Mobile / Sprint merger will bring along some surprises, Dish Network getting to benefit from the spectrum rights. How CenturyLink fits into this if any... is anybody’s guess, but I have heard the same rumor.

The Sprint TMobil merger has a condition that another carrier be formed. That is Dish taking over or buying Metro PCS ( TMobil) and Boost mobile (sprint) this year a as everyone knows a reseller. Who knows how the 5G will affect resellers?

Dish Network is looking to enter the wireless world. Only thing that may help is fiber that is in place already. CTL consumer side.

Yes MrObvious streaming is the way of the future. Centurylink couldn't make that work remember Over the Top and CenturyLink Stream? Company has no vision. Wanting to get into long haul transport, SDN, NFV, and the products as well as packet switched networks. Verizon and ATT has had that market cornered for 4 years now and will be an IP based network (2020 project) we're just now getting in it. Always 5 years behind. SMH.

WOW, I have some beach front property in Arizona I will sell for pennies! Why would each office need a dish? CenturyLink already owns it own Head end and pipes it’s programing on fiber..... and it’s already proven to not generate profits. Streaming is the way of the future.

Dish owns wireless spectrum and is building out a wireless network. They're already leasing rooftop space from CTL and others. Why would they buy the rest of the business when they already have the building access they want?

That would be another boondoggle unless Dish plans to change their bundled program package model to a steaming format that allows cord cutters to choose their programming and add multimedia content into it. That's the direction video entertainment is going, and the reason why Dish is already as obsolete as telco wireline.
