Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Save Your Health and Sanity

I’ve worked at CTL for approximately 5 years and have seen so many alarming things mainly the declining mental health of the employees. Hearing employees in the break room compare the anxiety and anti depressant meds that they are on from working here makes me sad.

I thought I’d have a long term career here but the writing on the wall says get out. I pray for everyone reading this that we all see better days. Hang in there.

In a workgroup of 14 CSTs, 13 are on nerve meds. In the CO 3 of 5 COTs on meds and all the National guys are. This was brought up in a meeting, along with the heart attack numbers in 50+ techs in our area. You know the VPs answer? Yeah, we realize you all have a lot of stress at home! Hahahahahahaha shameful SOBs.

I am a customer facing tech and let me tell you I am stressed but not because I care. I am stressed because all I do all day is catch hell from every customer. Waited three weeks for service, sold a bill of goods, why won't they fix the cable so I can get the speed they sold me, on and on.

Yeah the raise thing gets me especially when they say top performer and don’t put it in black and white and say exactly what that means.

I have started the process looking elsewhere and should have a interview soon with a competitor.

Not caring is easier said then done if you have spent your whole career doing your best and not accepting half a– work from yourself and those around you and being professional in what you do. Sure many don't care and show up and are walking dead really. I can't understand that mentality personally, just not how I am wired I guess.

Starting a stealth search if you think your on the block is smart, getting classes in smarter yet, remember we can't control a lot of things but we can control who we are.

One thing we have seen the Management changes here at a rate about every 5 years now since 2000, chances are there will be a sell off or a sale or a merger again once they drain as much blood as they can or get into a situation where there is a Upper echelon over haul again much like what happened recently with L3.

Exactly!! The reason anybody is stressed out is because they care. Stop being concerned about the stupid BS, there's nothing you can do about it. Just give management what they want and give to them good and hard.

The trick is to stop careing. No one cares and upper management is running the company into the ground. I will continue to show up and take there money until they replace me with a contractor. Enjoy it while it lasts and don't let it bother you until it effects your health. It's not worth it. It's just a job.

Right now, this place seems a dead end for all. No raises in sight, must be a top performer to get a raise and even then its a big if. Too much uncertainty from upper mgmt. Like many others, might be time to jump shift, ive been here awhile and havent got a raise in 2 years, thats not cool.

The information highway is just going to keep getting bigger and bigger. Get some certified training or an online degree and come to the understanding that you can leave CenturyLInk any time that you can find something better. If you take the initiative to train yourself, and look around, you won't have to worry about CenturyLInk. If they want you, they will treat you well to keep you, They need skilled packet switched network techs and engineers just like every other competitive telecom company out there. Make them come to you.

If your young enough with only 5 years maybe look for another job. The way their doing layoffs who knows who's next.
