More On Certifications

Here is another link that has some info about Telecom and IT industry certifications.

https://www.channelpartnersonline.com/article/29-hot-certifications-to-spice-up-your-business-in-2018/

You will probably have to cut it and paste it into your browser address window. The interesting part of this article is the "MVP" list of job skills that are in demand in telecom and IT. Of interest to us would be the Project Management certification that is broadly applicable to many industries. The average salaries for each certification are also listed.

If I were planning to move ahead either with CTL or outside of CTL, I would first choose a career and training path, then look for certifications that are applicable to my choice. I would also contact CTL HR to see if I qualify for tuition assistance. I don't know if the old program is still in effect, but it was a tuition reimbursement program that reimbursed an employee for education and certification expenses once an employee had completed classes or certification modules.

Also, if you choose to purchase the basic Cisco CCNA course from anyone other than Cisco, make sure they have a test engine simulator so you can test your knowledge as you progress through the courses. This is always a good idea when choosing any certification course.

Better check your job openings before you put all the work, time and money you’ll spend on these certs. Things change. Last I knew the dept that had job openings that required these certs people were eager to jump ship from at ctl.

Here is a re-post of an article that I linked in another thread. It's probably the best one.

If the industry wants contractors, then some of us may have to become contractors. Just be a high paid one.
