Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Corporate positions

Who knows what’s going on?? After 18 years, the Director of Business Development left! Her last day was Friday. Something is up with that. Also, I find it strange that there has been no notice, memo, or any type of communication about it! I heard by chance!

After my daughter was let go last February after 7 years of service, I too had my school change who we did business with. You can’t treat employees the way they did and expect business as usual. All those good people have families, friends who will not blindly still patronize you after seeing what happened to someone they love.

I worked in a school district. After they fired all those full-time long-term employees last year. We started ordering our books elsewhere.Could not, in any kind of good faith, keep doing business with them.

Just saying "Barnes & Noble" is a curse now. Even the schools don't trust the company anymore and are pulling out in big numbers. Our CRM couldn't wait to get out and hated the company (typical now).
You really have to be an id–t getting a management position here.
You all should read the reviews on the job websites- they're brutal.

Looks like it might be true - Director of Business Development position in New York went up on Jobs at Corporate on Monday. Frankly, I'm not surprised, as the amount of pressure on the Business Development area had increased substantially over the last two years. I knew a CRM who had worked for BN for 20 years, started out as a bookseller, and he left last December. The goals are outrageous and the expectation for the job is just too much for one person to bear.
