Thread regarding Sears layoffs

the reason i stopped shopping at Sears

The reason I stopped, I felt bad for the cashier. She made me feel bad too because her stats would be negatively affected by me not wanting to give my data in exchange for being a "member". This happened about 3 times in a row. I finally said to myself. I dont want to feel bad about not signing up for something when I shop. I dont go to Sears any more because I hate that feeling. I like the self check outs at other stores. its easier to tell a machine no. I dont want to give my phone number, address and email. I just want to buy a battery or a screw driver.

If no one wanted to share the number, we just used the number for time 234-1212 or information 555-1212, but used different area codes. There were ALWAYS plenty of records to choose from. No one paid any attention to the quality of the numbers or frequent use of one, just that transaction percentages with records attached were where they needed to be. Same with shopper recap. We just entered them in based on old transactions or exchanged info with other floor associates. Same with shopper surveys. We’d complete them ourselves and use vulgar, sometimes explicit descriptions of the store and staff - but they’d stay posted. The content was never reviewed or edited from what I observed.

So you didn’t want to give them little personal information that Is already widely available in exchange for joining a convoluted rewards program than hands you free merchandise hand over fist?

I dont have facebook. My true friends and family know how to contact me. I have a real social life, not a fake digital one.

Don't want to give your phone number or email to the self checkout kiosk? They'll put the guy or gal watching them on a PIP and will eventually fire them, then.

I hope you don't have Facebook because I'm sure they know way more about you than Sears would.
