Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Future of Intel Nuremberg

Does anyone have any definite info on what is happening with Intel Nuremberg?

I am going to finish my masters degree early next year and was planning to apply for a job there, but now there are no job openings. Is it true that the site is going to be closed? Or are they going to join Apple as a part of Apple's deal with Intel? Is it worth waiting for something to open up again?

I know some people who work there, and I contacted them, but I have not heard anything back.

Would it be surprising? Everyone knows that the works council has never done anything for the employees except treat them like children and make everything complicated. At the same time, the works council never built any kind of positive relationship with HR and the management. And now these are the people who are supposed to negotiate a good deal for the employees?

The works council members weren‘t elected because they are the best people for the job, but because they were the only people who stood to be elected. If before the election, people had known that this would happen, they would have nominated a better group. They would have elected people with some diplomcy skills and negotiating skills.

So I would not be surprised if there were covert negotiations between management and certain key people.

So is it true that some people have received relocation offers to Munich with a „Don‘t tell the works council“ clause attached?

Intel Nuremberg is dead. It‘s just a matter of figuring out the details.

It‘s funny actually, because many times before, NBG was already a dead site walking. I remember seeing that now infamous slideset by Aicha where she had planned to close the site, and then Apple intervened two days before the planned announcement. Just like in 2006, when half the site was saved from being kicked out - also by Apple. And now, ironically, it‘s Apple who is finally k–ling the site.

Of course Apple is getting rid of Nuremberg. Why would Apple keep them around? Apple is mostly interested in the patents and in some support for the software part. They want that from one single consolidated site, and that is obviously Munich.

My guess is that even the people who work there aren‘t sure yet. Both Intel and Apple are not exactly known for transparent internal communication.

But it‘s definitely a bad sign that there are no job openings. Same for Duisburg. Intel Munich on the other hand is hiring. Draw your own conclusions.
