The Auburn Maine Kmart is closing. The Auburn Maine metro area has a population of 107,000 with NO Target. If Kmart couldn't make it here, then where can they?

In most places there is Walmart and Target, certainly in markets with a metro area of 107,000. It isn't often that the market is wide open for Kmart. If Kmart can't make it in a place with 107,000 people and no Target and with only Walmart to compete in the discount segment, then they can't make it anywhere.
Looks like there’s a lot of options for shopping there so why would anyone care about KMart.

The Auburn Walmart is the largest in New England, and at one point was a 24-hour store. Target might come eventually, but the demographics of the market might not be favorable. Redevelopment of the Kmart property could be a challenge due to insufficient parking; otherwise a Market Basket would be ideal, and as a former mill town it's right in their wheelhouse.
There's a Walmart there.
Yep!
Nowhere. This is just the pre-going out of business forever sale. That's coming after the holidays.
