Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Getting laid off before the bankruptcy was filed sure looks like a blessing now and from this perspective.

I remember that a couple of my friends were laid off in the wave that struck before Ch11 was filed. That made me sad, my heart went out for them, but on the other hand I was glad that I stayed. Felt I was lucky not to be chosen for the cuts. Now all of those friends have new stable jobs and I’m still here, at a broken company, fearing for my job once again. Guess that all is not as it seems and a loss in life is not always a loss.

I worked for Sears in one capacity or another for over 20 years. My job was outsourced to Tata in 2016 and I was finally cut loose in April of this year. Many of my coworkers were laid off in the years before me and I saw this coming so I was mentally prepared. For years I went to lunch with former coworkers who found other jobs and was somewhat envious of them but I stuck with Sears due to the convenience. (15 minutes from home, I knew the systems well, very little management oversight, etc.) but every night I worried about being fired. (It’s not a lay-off because there’s no hope of ever going back). I was able to find a new job but it’s tough. I’m held accountable every day, and have plenty of management oversight. (Like you’re supposed to....). Quite frankly I’m struggling in my new role and it kind of stinks but when I leave work I don’t worry about my company going bankrupt or being fired due to staff reductions. It was nice to get the kick in the butt I needed to move on. Point is.... There is life after Sears and there are companies out there that appreciate an honest day’s work where you don’t have the constant worry of tomorrow being your last day. It’s amazing how much better I sleep at night without the worries of Sears.

To the person that spoke of their laptop and business unit - were you in Kenmore Direct?

Its funny. I joined a BU of SHC that is doing relatively decent; I knew that the head company was in trouble but also felt that our BU could be sold. I continued to think that going through this hard time would be a great experience for me in what NOT to do at another company should I move elsewhere; I foolishly thought that this was great experience. However, my ability to do simple tasks is made nearly impossible; a myriad of technical challenges in my group and virtually nobody around to fix them; responses to critical IT issues takes WEEKS to engage, and its so very frustrating to try and use my brain power and resourcefulness and creativity when I cant get my laptop to function correctly. Its like Im going backwards down a wormhole.
