Thread regarding Sears layoffs

When they add the roughly 600 stores from Hometown in a month it’s more than enough to justify the hardlines portion of Sears remaining stores which is where the business is. Kmart is another story unless they just turn them into mostly Sears.

Eddie said last fall that he wanted to move forward with 250 to 275 stores total. Looks like he is almost there.

The list is up to 97 closing stores in the article
So total store count for sears and Kmart is closer to 250 or less
I think if anyone was wondering if this is the last Christmas for the sears and Kmart they can stop wondering now

The writing is on the wall. Get out while you can . It’s retail... the money can’t be that great.

Actually the count is probably less than 260 because there were stores that closed after the 26 were announced—stores that were not on the original closing list
We can’t stay in business with so few stores
Not with our aged infrastructure, old computer systems and the stores have not been updated in years
Whatever stores that don’t close this fall will close after Christmas

260 stores left? Remember when we had 800+ Sears FLS and several thousand K-marts, plus all Hardware, Great indoors, Home-life and Sears Grand, etc.... this is just sad. How can we stay in business with under 300 stores?

Given the circulation of USA Today, I doubt very many people will bother to read the article or care if the list is accurate or not

I realize this list is being assembled on the fly since Transform, for whatever reason, won't give an actual list. There are errors in the roundup, though. Lewiston, Idaho, for instance is a Kmart, not a Sears.

So 380 stores on aug 7th
26 stores were publicly announced after that
Now 80 kmarts and 14 sears closing
Total sears/Kmart store count is now about 260
