Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

How’s CenturyLink?

AT&T worker here with 7 years experience, being surplused/laid off to the streets. How’s working for CenturyLink? I’d like to apply.

A whole 7 years, well I was forced out with 20 years so you would be low hanging fruit.

Apply your experience is a plus. I worked for CTL a long time. Do your job the best you can in a timely manner and you will do fine.

CTL is run by threats and bullying so if you like that type of treatment it is a great place to work. I’d look for other options, but given going homeless or hungry it’ll pay the bills, but at a price, your happiness.

We had an engineer come to Las Vegas from AT&T I. San Diego and she was miserable, couldn't believe how 1st level management treated employees, and that culture is backed by their bosses. She also was frustrated with chaotic processes and cumbersome systems with inadequate training, and then punished, sometimes screamed at, for any mistake or missed dates with skeleton staff that is even smaller now. She was very close to resigning, but they beat her to the punch with a layoff. Try another utility. Many techs have left ctl to go to power. There are lots of jobs for in house techs at banks, c-sinos etc. Title usually network engineer, so check that title.

Don't do it unless you enjoy being yelled at and threatened with your job everyday. I left after 20years and it was the best decision I have ever made.

I worked for both started at the old Southwest Bell only thing I can say is do not leave AT&T to go to CenturyLink under any circumstance it is another WorldCom waiting to happen, no security at all and no training it’s here it is figure it out bad plant worse management and Union is totally worthless

OP Here- I’m not “leaving” my job I’m getting laid off. If I had a choice I wouldn’t voluntarily leave somewhere I’ve been for 7 years with good pay and benefits.

AT&T tech: same circus different town... Link is on shaky ground as I don't think you would be very comfortable with how the place is being managed as a whole. Systems, resources , processes and procedures your accustomed to having, you likely wont find most of those things existing here. Depending on what craft position you would get, I found that senior Link techs like to roll their eyeballs at former work experiences and knowledge new techs bring to the table. They have no idea there's another world that exists out there that is structured and organized as opposed to the good ol' boy system they have been operating on for the span of their career. My observation of most senior techs, that this is the first job they had the day they got out of high-school and very likely their jobs fell under cronyism and nepotism. Link is in no way operating like AT&T or VZ If you could get past that and understand nothing is guaranteed you would be ok. To give you an idea of the existing mentality here, I recently asked a 40 year tech if there was a MOP for a particular activity that would be considered a network impacting event, the guy scoffed at the idea.

Your are out of your damn mind to leave AT&T ti come to CTL. All the things you guys supposedly went on strike for have already been taken from us like a thief in the night and the Union never uttered a word.
