Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

A question for people who have left or are leaving

What is the thing that finally made you decide it's time to leave Riverbed? Is there something specific that turned you from a "considering it" into an "I'm gone?" Was it pay? Lack of job security? Benefits? Or was it something else entirely?

I'm just wondering because I've been on the fence for a while now, and I still can't make the final decision.

Commission Commission and Just Commission!

Left Already - Small vendor with less caliber contractors preferred over employees just because of commissions people make out of them, there are many contractors who are just sitting idle and employees are being forced laid off...

What was left out. - the arrogance, and ignorance, coupled with utter lack of integrity by PM, AE, DS, JR, LS, BB.

That alone was enough for me...

ADHD driven decision making around company vision, every 6 months. Binning SteelFusion, quite possibly our best, most innovative product, after years of not listening to the field about it being overpriced, and years of not knowing how to market it. R—ded acquisitions, starting with Ocedo. Absolutely disgraceful execution of restructure. 0 communication to remaining field staff. Still no quotas? Where do I stop..

Getting let go in the recent big layoff really helped me get off the fence.

Start talking to recruiters, apply for a few jobs and you'll see there are good opportunities out there. If you get an offer, take it. If you get RIFfed at least you'll have some irons in the fire.

@JohnC - you should really be leaning into the Aternity and AIX division. Ask about ARR growth (or deflation), barrier to entry, and evolving markets vs YoY TCV.

Leadership - this is #1 - no need to explain this, just read through this forum or go to Glassdoor.

Non-existent growth - Riverbed is not merit-based, just old managers hiring old timers who make a living off creating and monitoring processes.

Salaries are whack - Lame HR relying on third-party Radford data for salaries is bad but worse is HR lowering the target Radford data is even worse. No pulse on reality and real costs of living.

Have's and have nots - non-merit based promotions due to lack of trackability and reliant on "drinks" and conversations. (related to item #1)

@the Gartner person - whether your really a PM trying to get free training because you lack any intellect or not, just ask Riverbed what the GTM strategy is. Most here do not understand what that means. Usually what Riverbed produces is a foggy/non-existent sales strategy (eg., sell more, faster), marketing dumps c-ap on LinkedIn no one "likes", product marketing produces atmospheric documents that is not useful beyond 1-2 days .. the real work will be done by field level workers because we always have to figure out how to run the business by ourselves while leadership "believes" they actually did something.

pay is below market
career growth is non-exist
constant layoffs
outdated technology(3 years behind market leader)
toxic working environment - Old co-workers only worried about getting severance package and retire.
chaos engineering process
Senior management has bad records of failing almost all the decision
Given the bad execution of the company strategy. class B stock is unlikely to fly because the debt will eat all the earnings.
recession may start any time; one better land a position at a company with good job security before it's too late.

The biggest problem is if one stays in this company, the growth literally stops. (and No company gives c-ap to the fake titles during an interview).

Still, the decision is yours. If you need some help making up your mind, go to glassdoor and sort the reviews based on ratings in ascending order and read them. That helped a lot.
