Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Not filling resignations

While there are "no layoffs", time and time again, several team members have voluntary resigned and they don't fill the position.

The positions duties are spread amongst our team. We are now to the point that we are half the size we were in Jan - we are over-worked. It's like their plan for "layoffs" in a sense.

Is anyone else having this issue?

They didnt backfill my position. I went to lunch with my old boss and he explained that my headcount could be used in an upcoming layoff so he didnt have to lay anyone off in the near future.

I recently started interviewing after being laid off. I can’t believe how vastly underpaid I was. I was thinking it was bad but by $20K a year? It’s better out there people. This company cares zero about you. Zero. Okay, less than zero.

I’m fixing to tell them what they can do with that stick. I’m done

It's all stick and no carrot anymore. If X, Y is not done and Z isn't done there WILL be disciplinary action. Yet, we have no accountability for mistakes two and three levels up. Run the place with contractors, it seems to be working so far. Make sure those phones are answered according to the new greeting, or else you will be working at in fast food for a lot less.

They didn't backfill mine and also laid people off. The load fell on the remainder of my team, which more have left since I did. Put your resume out there and if you have the right skills you can get a better job, more money and real benefits

Looks like those posts just got taken down.

This calling people out with potential libel is a pain for the site owners since they’re legally liable under some circumstances.

I have been a volunteer site admin elsewhere — this stuff is a pain.

The owners would likely win a lawsuit eventually but after spending time and money in court — why do this to the site owners? They’re probably not a well-heeled outfit like Facebook.

This is a useful place to share and vent.

I’m not in management.

Are people applying for jobs at Win? Unless C Level ring you in then there is no
Point of Putting In time At this place.

There are a lot of Brown Nosing people
Who remain employed that should’ve been first out the door.

The bean counters are one of the major reasons it's in Chapter 11 now. The CEO was a past CFO (the head bean counter) before becoming the CEO. If he had spent more time learning the business end that provided the beans to count, instead of counting everyone else's beans, along with shucking & jiving bond/shareholders, there wouldn't have been a mass exodus of employee talent starting about five years ago leaving him with a lot less beans to count.

"The bean counters tend to know the difference between profit, income, revenue, and costs, ulike you "

Thanks for that. Apparently, the concept of sarcasm is alien to you or I must have hit a nerve using "bean counter", which is perhaps your profession. My apologies. Have a nice day!

"You know that costs are not a factor in revenue, right?" Ha-ha. Tell that to the bean counters, my friend.

There is no way this company can survive without raising revenue, and the only way they can do it is with mass layoffs.

You know that costs are not a factor in revenue, right?

That was happening before Windstream went belly up. It's a quick way for your VP to further their cost based bonus. When pressured they will used the tried excuse of "well... Um... Yea... So that's um... Well I would rather lay off a empty seat then a person." Which complete wank because they use that cost saved and more justification for their bonus and the teams deliverables suffer greatly and performance takes a hit in the long run but ... That's not the story they are trying to tell.

I'm sure they are elated that it's working that way; but be assured, it won't be enough. There is no way this company can survive without raising revenue, and the only way they can do it is with mass layoffs.
