I’m sorry for those that lost their jobs, but truth be told, it’s just the business had to cut off where it wasn’t receiving traction. Simple as that. Dead weight. IMO, this cut should have been done when J was still here and had he done it, he would still be around. Nothing to see here. Just the business doing what it needs to be more efficient and profitable. This company has been bloated for years and it’s refused to take Tums. About time.

Go aternity!
New month, new deals. Anything interesting happening? Are we over the last cut? Is the stride back?
If you are unemployed, and Riverbed gave you 90 day salary and joining bonus, then you can't complain about it.
If you took Riverbed after the company promised big things to you, and in turn you declined offers from Google, Amazon, Facebook etc., then yes, it is unfair.
Don’t you read Glassdoor? Who in their right mind would take a job at this company at this point?
Sorry to hear. It is sad that your hiring manager, HR were dumb to extend offers and dumb to select you for rif. Karma will catch up to them.
Hey buddy your comment is pretty short sighted about "dead wood". I was new hire barely 90 days in and was let go in this round. It's a pretty sh*tty thing for a company to do to someone. The regional business outlook hasn't changed at all in 90 days so why make the hire in the first place?
Let me guess, the OP is in marketing.
I am seeing posts like this and posts responding to people's concerns like "STFU and get over it" The whole point of this forum is for people to share concerns, share knowledge, build each other up, and yes, vent - because being laid off s—s and there is no question that there have been casualties at the bottom due to poor management decisions at the top. But what there is NO ROOM FOR is people like you calling these jobs and this work "Deadweight" and attacking people's work efforts and contributions over the years, a call that you have NO INSIGHT on. There are a lot of Trump-like posts going on and I won't stand for it. There were so many good engineers let go that drove in millions of revenue, and the inside sales teams did as well. I am 100% sure these people funded your paycheck and the bed you sleep soundly on at night. So please, use this forum like it is supposed to be used!
Sales and marketing have k–led every product aside from WAN opt.
Aternity has great capabilities but Riverbed Marketing is incapable of creating the right positioning aligned to customer business problems, Sales have no idea how to address the market or to how to create a business case for it so wander around trying to find budget, sell a few licences and then hope to expand once a foot in the door, plus Partner ecosystem is errr, still evolving?? Maybe in the event of an acquisition the right resources will be applied to the task in hand for it to be a success - at least this separate business unit looks to be heading that way...
New Aternity division will be sold to Dell ASAP. My understanding is the paperwork is already under way. They're making these cuts now to maximize payouts for leadership and TB when that deal goes through. No idea what the long term plan is for "legacy" riverbed, but I don't think that matters to the people making these decisions this week.
If you're still at riverbed, and aren't chosen to be one of the cool kids working for AE at his new and exciting Aternity company, then you might want to start thinking about other options.
Bruh, y’all just mad cuz your cushy-a– job you thought no one would ever find out that does nothing for this company will last forever. I’m going to call it what it is cuz I keep it real. For the longest time, people thought Riverbed would never cut folks cuz it’s not in its nature. Now u know. Being soft is over. If u been chillin’ at ur post, didn’t pick up any new skills and now gone, then you got no one to blame but your own complacency. GG. Cry me an ocean.
Lawl
OP can eat a bag of d*cks.
Three kids. One income. Now laid off.
Cannot agree with the OP
"The plan is to sell the new EUE/APM Aternity Division to Microsoft for $3-4B. .."
I think you might be off by a couple of zeros, my friend.
The plan is to sell the new EUE/APM Aternity Division to Microsoft for $3-4B either late this year or 2nd quarter 2020.
“Classic” Riverbed gets sold in pieces...last one out the door, catch the lights.
Execs pull the ripcords on LTIPs, and laugh at the peons who drank the Kool-Aid they were peddling.
And that’s the news from Lake Woah...I’m Gone.
I’ve been through every round of layoff since tb took over. Again, this is expected given tb’s timeline, pressures, and performance.
It sounds like this one is as large as the 2015 (~20%) but the last few have been marginal at best.
In no way am I suggesting people deserve to be cut, but those sadly in departments that are not profitable is off to a calling to something better (I hope).
Hear me, and rejoice. You have had the privilege of being saved by the Great Thoma... You may think this is suffering... No. It is salvation. Universal scales tip toward balance because of your sacrifice. Smile... For even in layoff, you have become Children of Thoma Bravo.
I don't even work for this company,,,just reading the "Latest Post",,,, Why even write this here? There are people losing jobs and you're just a prick that's just rubbing it in their faces. Do you go to old people funerals and state,,, "well they were old and weren't gonna last long anyways, plus the roads will be less crowded on the weekends"?
Just shut up !! you can't keep laying off people and say it's normal. Insane. You can't do business with a mindset. As leaders and mgmt team it's your responsibility to take business in right directions. Normal engineers suffer end of the day. Layoff the CEO and whole of mgmt team.
The company has already done several rounds of layoffs to trim the fat, cut the dead weight, or whatever you would like to call it. The size and scope of this round sounds like things are a bit different this time. My guess is either the company is in very bad shape, or they are slimming down to either be acquired or merged with another company. Would TB try to merge RVBD with Versa? Who knows. I'm just speculating and I certainly don't claim to be an M&A expert. This round does sound rather large though.
