Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Can anything be done to ward off being laid off?

Might seem like a stupid question, but I'm desperate. This close to retirement the last thing I need is to find myself on the job market once again. Is there anything to be done?

Yes buy 10,000,000 shares of DXC stock and you wont be laid off! You will be sent to nut-house but you wont be ,laid off LOL

Where are you located ? How long before retirement. You maybe very surprised at what is ahead of you. Do you have a defined benefit plan or pension that can get impacted because ERISA in US is a very touchy subject for companies that may protect you. CSC considered retirement age > 55 and pretty sure so did HP. They can flag your layoff as retirement instead of RIF/WRF/CR. If you are flagged as retired, you can comeback as a contractor/consultant for more money for client, DXC or Client's direct competitor. I went to client competitor to finish out my working years. Some of the older skills are in HIGH demand. For example, they dont teach COBOL any more but plenty of systems out there are still using it. I know a manager in India failed to find a C programmer after searching over a year, so that turns out to be valuable asset (they dont typically teach C in university program). It could have a great outcome should it happen.

(Assuming you are UK or somwhere where there is a CR / VR package). If you are close to retirement then take the money. You will manage financially, there will be work around, maybe not what you are used to, maybe not very well paid but it will get you to retirement and you will be free of a lot of the stress associated with working for this joke of a company. Relax. Breathe. Enjoy.

The only way to ward off a CR or WFR is to get promoted beyond your level of competency. This is because employees with many years of service [cutting the steak] are paid very well and can BS their way to the top.

Unfortunately only way to ward off is to learn to cut his steak. Even then not worth it.

If you get the WFR then accept it in anycase and don't stay as they likely get rid of you another way like performance sacking etc. If you do get WFR and unhappy with it then get your employment file via HR then appeal it and then take further action down the line (if it is worth it) - unfair and constructive dismissal -> employment tribunal.

No there really is nothing you can do, except leave the company to another u known. Me I am waiting it out as I will retire when I am Riff’ed. I still try to make things better , even if I get push back at every turn, not my job bull c-ap.

The reality is that if you reject a WFR then some other muggins will be WFR'd instead as greedy Mikey wants his bonus. However you will never get another opportunity to leave the sinking ship with a payout, unless you p1ss of management

When you post a real question from a real person, we have very limited answers. But if the topic is something useless, there are lot of freelancers replying. This proves that even the people left in dxc are heartless / clueless.

Do what my associate did: He told me he wanted to work for one more year and not to fire him as he would retire at that time. He committed to a date. I kept him off the WFR list for well over a year till he said it was time for him to go. Remember, most people in DXC below EVP level are still human and part of the same shietshow, going through the same anxieties you are. If we can do something to help, we will. Use your judgment though when opening this discussion. If your manager is not high EQ, don't do this at all.

Also remember, sometimes, the names are not up to the managers. The war room sends out names based on age and pay. In that situation, you are sunk.

Also, if you could, play this smartly. After doing the above with your manager, look around for a new job anyway. There is no downside to doing so. Just make sure that if you do find another job, you give the manager ample notice. Don't screw it up for him or the next guy who makes such a request.

Find another job in another company, the best time for job hunting is when you are already employed. DXC is a sinking ship, it is just a matter of time for us all.

Sadly few seem to be safe in DXC even 'hot' segments like security are being made redundant.

I agree with ybj - consider a lateral move, but bear in mind that you may only be staving off the inevitable. The DXC story is destined to be a short one and will not end well...

Good luck.

If staving off the WFR in your current position isn’t an option then perhaps a lateral move to another department may bridge the gap to retirement. Believe me there are lots of teams struggling in dxc due to lack of resources, and I’ve seen it were US/UK&I folks were moved to another desperate team. Maybe put the word out with colleagues or identify a needy team and approach the manager. Good luck!
