Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

Another shoe going to fall....lots of em

But the real asses that need to get kicked will not. They will simply place blame elsewhere and sanctimoniously thank themselves for all their past “brilliance”. Please. PM AE DS are clowns

If your VP is coming to visit, you should be asking why

Those with 1:1s, what location? Sunnyvale or SF?

Your manager not having a say is consistent with the previous RIFs.

For those with the 1:1s, what departments?

Can we give AE, PM, MS, AJ 1:1’s too? I’m sure they can land gigs at HP’s switch and RUM division as head of (no) sales (unwanted) product.

I got a 1:1 invite too today. I’m going to assume my manager didn’t know and probably didn’t have a say in the matter. Don’t know who made the decisions here but it clearly there was no input from lines of management.

What the reason for latest layoffs ? Q2 bad ? Or do they want to rip off entire SCON branch ?

Bogus fake news. Cuts if any are minimal and noise in the grand scheme of things. Focus on work, weekend and family. Yes, do interview in the background and keep an plan B ready. Don’t get caught like a dumb–s thinking “I won’t be affected.” Business is not doing good and unlikely to recover. Cisco viptela (no matter how bad) has a much broader solution and we are just a point product. You can’t peddle 1 subwoofer model when competition has tv, internet, whole 7.2 entertainment system, and cables too. They also sell couch (security), soda and popcorn (servers), . At the same time we are profitable and will continue to be.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the world were that simple? You need to get out more.

If this is real then all I can assume is that good people will get cut and the bad ones will stay. The bad players know how to work the metrics to float in the middle. Too bad our misguided leaders don’t know this fact.

Is there any Layoff Still Coming ?

Let us face the truth.

We are led by a very inexperienced exec team that is beholden to the money man who wants their profit at all costs.

I hope I am lucky enough to receive the call, take the package and never look back.

The current leaders are doing the best they can using a model they know from past experience. There's not much else they can do. To be fair, they inherited a very challenging situation. It might take a rock star outlier CEO like a Steve Jobs or Michael Dell to turn this around. But obviously talent like that is very rare.

Your use of ‘this’ is ambiguous. In your opinion, is the current leadership resting on the laurels of past victories, or, doing quite well now?

This executive hierarchy was imported by leaders who were let go from another major tech company that did quite well in the 90s and 2000s. This company has since moved on with different leadership and is doing quite well now.

  • 1 my friend. Too many jokers roaming around as SVPs, VPs, Sr. Directors, Directors, Sr. Managers, Managers. Never seen such an elaborate and deep exec hierarchy at any other company.

What exactly does a Sr. Manager do? Similar for Director, Sr. Director. Warming the chair you could say.
