Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Proposed 1 Gig broadband planning for the ILEC

http://www.kccllc.net/windstream/document/1922312190712000000000166

Windstream petitioned the court to retain Altman Vok andrie & Co to do a study of its ILEC business to determine where it should prioritize upgrading customer speeds to 1 Gig using FTTP (fiber) or 5G fixed wireless:

“Windstream has asked AV&Co. to assist in prioritizing areas within its ILEC footprint where FTTP and 5G fixed wireless network investments can earn an attractive financial return and, on the basis of an optimal network upgrade plan, determine the financial impacts on Windstream’s ILEC revenue, expense, and capital expenditures. The optimal network upgrade plan must reflect the technology that produces the best financial return, but also satisfy capital availability, EBITDA and other financial objectives, labor capacity by geography, and other constraints that may arise.”

ILEC operations nerds may be interested in skipping the first 25 pages of legal stuff down to the consultants’ letter describing what they plan to do.

That is hilarious. WS can't manage bandwidth to it's own offices let along deliver 1 Gbps to a single customer. And 5G Fixed Wireless - I think the execs are combining buzz words in tech to sound smart and prop up a bonus or two. No such thing during this BK period unless using Mad Libs marketing edition.

Maybe we shouldn't promise things everyone knows we can't deliver. Maybe have these jobs engineered by someone on the ground instead of someone contractors in a basement 1000 miles away looking at Google earth. Maybe have them plan to build beyond the curb and all the way to a customers demarc. Maybe don't put your people in a position where they are viewed as liars and hated by their own community and neighbors. Maybe think something through instead of betting the farm on something some jackass sales engineer sold you on at a conference. Maybe don't preengineer entire metropolitan exchanges based strictly off of records everyone knows are garbage, so that every change made dosent throw the rest of the planned deployment ace deuce. Maybe bounce some of these ideas off of someone who's been in this business more than 5 years and at least understands the concept of a color code. Maybe be realistic and play with the cards you've been dealt. Maybe play to your strengths instead of exposing all your weaknesses to your customers and competition. Maybe realize throwing a damned tantrum when your half baked hail Mary isn't going well isn't the best strategy or morivator. If you cant find any strengths at least identify some weaknesses and try to work on improving those. Construction is being hung out to dry too believe me. Everyone is.

Here is some free consulting, Try to work on building all the GPON you are selling in some kind of time frame that resembles 45 days not 45 weeks. WS is not able to meet their expectations on delivery dates and the company is hanging the sales force out to dry. Meanwhile every CLEC cable company who is able to is going to deal deploy Gig services over coax and GPON and continue to k–l WS while WS focuses on more important things. Carpet Upgraded for HQ spring to mind. Retention bonuses would seem to be a top priority. Actually figuring ways out to save money and make money not so much. Hire some more VPs please, maybe one in charge of paying the bills?

Autocorrect error - the company is:
Altman Vilandrie & Co

Not Altman Vok andrie & Co
