Whomever said doubt they’ll bin SCON, I think you need a reality check. It will end up on maintenance releases only I expect.
As other poster said RVBD spent 3+ years developing something that is probably mediocre at best. And still can’t/won’t scale for enterprise without massive investment that the company just cannot afford due to ebitda requirements from TB.
That is not to belittle the hard work put in by eng, I it just wasn’t good enough in my view. But taking a long hard look at SteelConnect compared to competitors you have to be realistic about were the solution is.
This versa play at least seems to be smart move in the circumstances the company is in.
Ebita pressures means scon is dead, marked as wont fix in jira, subsequent engineering attrition will not be replaced as its affecting leadership bonus..... The more of us eng that leave the easier its for them to meet bonus targets - go figure.
I think this is an admission that after 3+ years of trying to build an enterprise grade SDWAN solution, we’ve failed so we’ll partner with someone who has. I didn’t hear why a customer is going to buy versa from us and not versa and I’m guessing if I were a customer seriously considering Connect I’d now be very concerned about the future for the platform.
Not acquiring versa, rebranding their sd-wan solution and selling as our own.
On paper, it doesn't look like a different market segment, similar architecture, similar feature. at least on paper.
Could be someone testing the waters before going a step further?
Wtf is OEM ? Are they acquiring versa ?
I doubt they'll bin SCON. It's targetting a different market segment.
