Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

So removed from reality

Millennials consider office hours with the CEO the #1 perk a company can offer (NOT ping pong tables or beer kegs) - our executives are so removed from the worker, no wander there is no fresh blood around.

As an old gen-x'er that remembers everyone complaining about us being apathetic slackers, I get tired of listening to the garbage about millenials. I also have 3 kids that are millenials that are out in the world busting theirs butts to make their mark. Current generations have altered what's important in society and in the working world and that is positive. They've also figured out that we've been played with this "work yourself to death" ethic - I hope - although maybe not when you look at some developer trends. I find it fascinating that office hours with a CEO would be a perk. A traditional CEO like Meg Whitman or Bob Swan or instead someone dynamic like Elon or maybe Richard Branson. It would be interesting if our execs mingled with normal people and that did not scare people. I know that if the EVP or SVP of my area wanted to meet, there would weeks of prep to have numbers memorized and to talk about the right message and the level of stress would be huge. It could never be just two people sitting down to talk about things honestly and that's sad.

What's with the dumping on Millenials, you all were young once. Give it up already.

Oracle is driving out anyone with talent, why would anyone stay somewhere when you never knew if this paycheck will be your last, or if you'll get laid off to save paying you RSU's? The only people staying are those to afraid/complacent to find something better.

That leaves Oracle as an entire company of B-Team players competing against the best companies in a high stakes game. No wonder they are getting their asses kicked.

I sit next to a bunch of millenials. I get dumber by the day listening to these people. We are doomed as a country. Maybe that's why all the H1-Bs are coming over.

There are a lot of good and smart Millenials out there. Even some of the greasiest, stinkiest ones.

I have yet to meet one at Oracle, particularly in the Seattle OCI group.
