Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Why did the ABA get removed from contract negotiations?

Well I am sure that what the company proposed to our members was something like this.

  • No Job Security

-No $5 Raises for all T Rates

  • No Free Healthcare

-No 401k match

  • Less Paid time off

-Less head count reduction if the union accepts

The ABA didn’t see that this was acceptable to the membership so he countered with this.

-Job Security by bringing in Aviation to keep the membership working seeing how the Power division is a dyeing product. But with the provisions to layoff members at will and have them on a on call basis.

  • $13 raise for T Rates

  • Free Healthcare for T Rates

  • 7 weeks vacation for All members

  • 2 hour breaks for all members

-Call back all the Employees from Layoffs and who walked out. Promises the membership no more layoffs in this new $1.6 billion dollars in cuts to Power.

What do you think happened? I think the company said accept our contract or we close the doors with no plant closing provisions from the upcoming expired contract.

@ZohsGVD-czl.....Not sure where you work, but from my experience they can’t find the skilled trades people that they need and the company is already losing some to other businesses. So what makes you think that they will be able to do what you’re suggesting. Also, there have been people in skilled trades already refuse call backs. Good luck with your wishful thinking but it will never happen.

ABA is never in involved in national contract negotiations with GE. Very creative post and seems like you put a lot of effort into it, but it was all for nothing. You need to get informed, sorry to burst your bubble.

One thing to keep in mind Aviation is going gangbusters they will lead the contract talks Also Evendale Ohio has D rates only There not going to take a bs offer from the company 301 will have very little input ABA's do not participate in contract talks as for the timing of JC removal no membership meetings until sept so RM wont have to defend himself Also contract talks are in Ohio that should tell you something about were the company is going to concentrate on in the past they were always in NYC and I think the op to this is very uninformed and likes fake news

I have a hard time believing that D Rates will make it through negotiations untouched. Mathematically it makes no sense. I can see either pay getting cut by threat of closure/job losses, or daily responsibilities being increased until the D Rates break and decide it's not worth the money. Basically, everybody has their breaking point and GE is looking for that point which is shared by the majority of us.
