Former Staples CEO Goodman elected director of CBRE

Shira Goodman

Shira Goodman, the former CEO of Framingham office supply retailer Staples, has been elected to the board of directors of Los Angeles real estate giant CBRE Group.

Goodman, who first joined Staples in 1992, led the company from 2016 to 2018, overseeing a $7-billion acquisition by New York-based Sycamore Capital Partners, before departing in January 2018.

"CBRE will benefit greatly from Shira's business acumen and deep and diverse leadership experience," said Brandon Boze, CBRE's board chair. "We look forward to her contributions to advancing our strategy and creating additional value for all our stakeholders."

In addition to CBRE, Goodman services as an advisory director to Charlesbank Capital Partners in Boston and is on the board of directors of CarMax, Inc. in Virginia and Henry Schein, Inc. in New York.

"CBRE is the industry leader with a focused strategy, commitment to responsible business practices and outstanding record of growth," Goodman said in a statement. "I am very excited to help the company build on its success and deliver great outcomes for clients, employees, shareholders and local communities."

lol @ZbO128O-diim, not really saying she is or isn't qualified, just that the belief that she somehow clumsily screwed up Staples resulting in having to sell to SP is so naive. She's not an id--t. You could make the argument that with her long tenure in leadership positions that she had a role in the missed opportunities that Staples had to modernize and remain competitive over the last 10 years, but RS was at the helm during the entire free fall. Her role as CEO at the end was a result of RS being ousted by the board, and determining that the only option left was to go private.

So all I'm really saying is that casting her as evil or stupid is just silly.

o.k. @ZbO128O-dnrl so you are of the belief she brings value and is qualified to be on the board of CBRE, Charlesbank Capital Partners CarMax etc.? So now who childishly believes in fairy tales?

" SG was unqualified and ran the company into the ground and sold it for salvage value. " You're a fool.

Seriously. Do you think she was appointed to save the company and turn it around based on the "20/20 strategy"? You're seriously a child.

Her only task after being appointed CEO was to get the company sold. It wasn't incompetence that did it, she accomplished exactly what was expected. She was ousted a bit more abruptly than she expected, but I imagine that had more to do with outside forces than anything she did or didn't do.

Some of the rants on here are just childish and silly.

Beautifully stated ! Perfect . RS ....his plan was to line his pockets, possibly so he could upgrade his vehicle from the Camry with the 300,000 miles on it .

Maybe she will write the weekly newsletter. Those weekly heartfelt gems about a retail associate that delighted a customer while costing the company thousands of dollars or sharing the family recipe for ice.

RS started the downfall of Staples. His “plan” was obtuse. His arrogance was unparralled and his strategy in OD FTC trial set company back a full year. SG was unqualified and ran the company into the ground and sold it for salvage value. Why any company would add her as a director is perplexing.

Shira is going to convince CBRE to buy all properties owned by Staples in a Sales & Leaseback that will probably earn her some nice kickbacks.

Alternatively, she will convince Staples to lease properties they aren't able to offload.

just being on the board of these companies and not the master & ovahlord will not afford her the same opportunity she had at Staples to sell everyone out to evil and hey she does bring the all important "diversity" to the table.

Definitely one of the top 10 biggest mistakes CBRE has ever made. Talk about bringing a nimrod to the id--t parade, geez.
