SAP Indirect Access Licensing is causing a lot of irate customers, and will push them away from SAP. My time used to be explaining solution features, now it’s spent explaining indirect license and document usage pricing impact
Regarding the expensive $8b deal, can’t believe they have a strong m&a team to perform DD, and comparative valuation. SM is only $2b and almost same capabilities, except the RS marketing spin.
Customers not only have options in terms of product, solutions and services but options in terms of how they treated by an honest, transparent, ethical, honest and trustworthy leadership. Clearly SAP leadership is perceived as dishonest and un-trustable. I hope they using Qualtrics to measure their own X data...
@ZWcZvzR-3kfk - Downloading customer data into Excel and passing it around is a clear violation of GDPR and SAP will be fined big time for it if there is a whistleblower (wait a minute, now the world knows about this illegal practice ..). The sales teams were told that they cannot do this any more but they ignored the warnings. Oh well, someone will have to pay the fine if the GDPR police finds out.
There have always been options. Just like you can Toyotas if you don't want a BMW. The reality is enterprise software doesn't need to so much. Most people download the data i to Excel anyways because IT s---s.
What is the licensing model for Qualtrics? They might just bundled it with other software just to "boost" up the number of customers just for show - basically, give it away. They have done this before with other software solutions. As I commented before, no one at SAP has a deep understanding of CX, they can only talk about the high level concepts. By the end of the year, the CX topic will fade away just like many other previous hot topics that Bill pushed for. Let's wait and see what is next ...
Did anyone in the know made any investments in Quadrics before it was purchased by SAP? If not, I do believe that logic and common sense would rule, and SAP would position Quadrics to customers only when it makes sense.
All SAP Account Executives have been instructed to force the Qualtrics solution on all existing customers. Forget all other options as SAP has to justify this Qualtrics blunder. Billy is in hot water with Wall Street for blowing $8 billion on this over rated acquisition.

Sure, SAP was a best of suites in the early 90s.
But now we have much better best of breed SAAS.
Except SAP is not a suite now except by name, the acquired SAAS are neither integrated nor best in class.
For sure, there are many options and even some more (Tableau, Qlik, Cognos, Manhattan, I2, JDA, Infor, NetSuite, etc) plus all custom development / home-grown systems in some industries like Finance.
This was the situation early 90's and companies struggled with systems, interfaces, hardware and data models. And upgrades and new regulations, etc. Just imagine how to get a proper Analytics across so many architectures (get a data lake, data warehouse, massive data transformation, etc). And by the way, there were many options at that time too.
History is always like a pendulum that oscillates from one extreme to the other. It was homegrown and diverse systems in the early 90's. It went from "best of breed" towards "best of suite" with SAP, Oracle, Infor, Microsoft in the last 20-25 years. Now it is moving back towards "best of breed / cloud"and all developers are enjoying the ride.
