Thread regarding SAP layoffs

@ZCbntjQ-3ded - First of all, I am really sorry to hear that you have to work against your principles and forced to violate HR rules and guidelines ( I am sure SAP legal is aware of these violations but they are not concerned because they know they are untouchable - that no one has the money, time and resources to go against SAP).

Thank you for confirming our suspicions that SAP runs with a mafia mentality and full of nepotism. The place is full of unethical and incompetent management teams that are well protected - nothing will change unless there is a proper draining of the swamp.

I am glad we have some HR personnel who confirms the state of despair in our company. Policies are defined by managers who set rules according to their likes or dislikes.

In my region, we are also amazed at the cull list. We have less Germans here though. Locals are culled by foreign managers who hire their countrymen or kin or preferred a-- kisses, hiding such practices by pushing out qualified employees under the guise of performance.

We are also astounded by the quality of hires.

This is what happens when the company stops growing organically and only depend on acquisitions to grow. The people are just surviving on maintenance. They offer low value and they stab each other to stay alive and expand their territory.

I am in HR at SAP and have to agree we have no say in these decisions, policies or much of anything.

We are told to push it back to the manager, we tell managers to use self-service, and we do what the manager says (even if that ask is against policy or basic common sense), our hands are tied.

HR doesn’t make HR policies at SAP, the business does. The challenge is different lines of business and managers have different policies. So it really comes down to your manager and LOB.

In 10 years of being in HR, I have never worked this way. SAP HR needs to act as a strategy driver. But we have no voice, no leadership, and no seat at the table.

I have seen some of the best people get laid off during this last restructuring, people who we should be trying to hire (underpaid top talents) not fire. I see the list and and ask how can this be? How can SAP keep these people but term Jane and John? It makes no sense. Its the manager who decided, for whatever reasons. But my issue is being in HR I see what the reasons are and it really bothers me professionally and personally when I see Jane replaced by a managers son or friend or colleague I know is far less qualified but moved because they are German. I apologize to all of you effected, and will not be staying with SAP myself.

HRs are no saints but I don't blame them. They just follow the suit and it is the upper managments that set the base tone. SAP as a once great company is itself a victim of these unenthical individuals. They collect big checks and lead us to the dead end. we all know who these people are.

Completely true. I am a little bit older than for SAPs liking, and was part of the their last ever restructuring after 13 years of exceeding performances, so they could save 20K.

Next restructuring will be in Q3. 6 months after Elliot investment. Bill will cave and another fitness program will follow. S4 and C4 Sales not where we need them to be. Ecosystem won’t be able to absorb NA fitness program layoffs. Good luck all.

@ZCbntjQ-1rry - Well, SAP is going to learn the hard way ... You put someone that is young and good looking but with no substance in front of potential customers, it is a true embarrassment. They send these young and good looking millennials that are appointed as product managers to events, it is so obvious that they don't have a clue on how the products really work (without a script). Their job is to stand there, look good and don't try to answer any questions. They can throw in a few tag lines such as Best Run SAP, Run Simple, Customer Expeience once in awhile to make themselves feel good.

Here is a novel idea: Pair up these young millennials that are "willing to learn" with some "senior" SAP veterans (the ones that are being pushed out the door) and show them the ropes. I guess this is too logical for the high paying HR folks to figure out ....

i think i know the group of “young talent” mentioned. they are not even involved with the rest of the GCO organization in following up on deals. they just do sing and dance

on the hiring of young talent.

indeed management has a kpi on average age of their staff, which they try to bring down

on the young talent, I have seen how my department hired “young talent” just to be the young faces to sing and dance before visitors to the Leonardo Center. The irony is most of the demos needs to be setup by third party vendors. One of the “young talent” is even the son of one of the employees in the inner circle. They are from that country which is known for corruption and they bring the same culture to SAP

i know of a young HANA platform sales leader. Less than 40. Super ambitious. He is stationed in a country in which he is a foreigner. He figged about HANA capabilities in order to close public sector deal. It’s the tax payers that are going to pay for such “talents”.

imagine — the only reason why you are in demand is because you are young. Young does not equate to delivering results!

Every corporation is doing this - IBM has been getting away with this for at least the past decade. Big Companies get away with it by offering packages and having people sign that they wont sue as a prerequisite for getting the package. Hard to believe that isn't considered being forced to sign under duress. The "early talent" is too ignorant to understand they too will be on the receiving end of one of these packages sooner than later.

SAP does have a lot of older, less productive workers. However, the majority of the dead weight is in Germany where they are protected from layoffs. So HR decided they would target most in NA and other countries with weak labor laws. Most of the innovation and brilliant experienced workers were thrown to the curb in NA.

The NSQ campus now resembles a college campus with all of your non-experienced early talents who stroll into the office at 9:30 AM, take 1 hour lunch breaks and head to the Gym by 4 PM. Then when they are asked to host a global call in APJ time zone they throw a tantrum. Good luck with that SAP HR. Let's see if Billy Mc Doormat can keep Wall Street happy next year with Elliot's expectations. If not you'll see another restructuring in March 2020.

I work in sap HR, we have early talent hiring targets that managers and recruiters must meet.

The reason is SAP is often seen as an old dinosaur company that lacks the cool factor.

The goal is to appear more hip, younger and innovative. It’s perception.
