From previous posts, there was some discussion on the next round of Salaried Layoffs set for August/September time frame. Is this still on track? Any other discussion on this?

The UAW can and probably will strike against GM and Ford. The thing is though that the employees only get $250 a week if striking. I've never known a single UAW worker to have much on hand to be able to weather out practically no income. If they strike, it's going to hurt the Union workers first. Secondly, GM and Ford can bring in temporary workers and even their salaried workforce to build autos if necessary. The Unions are just big socialist bullies with the mentality of an angry toddler.
I have $25,000/-. I am waiting to buy that autonomous vehicle.
@YyLnzOz-4ldh Your post is relevant but your descriptor " bleeding woman" ruins it for me. What is the value add of that descriptor ? What are you trying to convey ?
There is a very high probability that the UAW will strike this year due to substantial forced reductions to both the salaried and hourly workforce even when the company was performing above average. If it is a long-lasting strike, GM will have no choice but to implement a new round of cutoffs to continue the returns that they need to fund autonomous and electrification unless they sell their share of Cruise. Cruise Automation funding alone is enormous and continuing to grow at an alarming rate.
5fst- How do you know that there won't be more mass firings ?
A big computer system that is intended to replace more people.
Would you trust a thing that management says at this point?
And to be clear, people were not "laid off" in the cute little "so sit over in time out and you'll be the first we call when we need someone" sense. They were TERMINATED. CANNED. LET GO. SEPARATED. With there being NO INTENT of being rehired. Being "laid off" suggests there is still a relationship which may be renewed by the company calling them back.
The severance agreement says "GM DOES NOT INTEND FOR ME TO BE ELIGIBLE AT ANY TIME IN THE FUTURE FOR EMPLOYMENT BY GM". i.e. those canned are persona non grata at GM facilities, even as supplier employees who would be placed at a GM facility.
There is no validity to this. What management has said is that many of those that were laid off may even be hired back. There are no more lay off's in the works.
To 4sqz - my question to you , what are your thoughts and the executives thought as to how long Marry Barra will be allowed to be CEO of GM ? She's destroying the company from the inside out. I really wanted to become a mechanical engineer , I have the heart and love almost everything I did at GM unfortunately for me I have a math disability that has held me back from becoming what I wanted to be. I love Automotive and aerospace and this just hurts , I was a technician but I couldn't keep my job as I was contract and for well over a decade for the company. I always held the engineering team in high regard because I know all of the schooling and what it takes to get there.
Engineering is running so thin now that processes and standards are out the window. Needs to get fixed ASAP to keep the customers safe.
I have spoken to a 2 GM Executives and there is a common expression of despair about the "new" GM that Mary has created and the strong risk of GM failing in the future. The rumors of additional layoffs and de-leveling by the end of 2019 to early 2020 do have some foundation in that they were brought up by Execs as well. There is no absolute proof here but it should raise enough concern among GM employees to start looking for a new job outside of GM.
The odds of the UAW NOT striking GM this fall are between slim and none. Cutbacks, plant closings, and job eliminations don't exactly play nice in the sandbox with record profits. It should be interesting to watch.
Rumor is the UAWs are going to strike in September , GM is an abomination to the United States of America , run by bleeding woman and old stuffed men that haven't a clue as to what or how to manage the company , the first and last female CEO of GM, soon to be bought up by Asian manufacturing like FCA will be. GM is done folks , once the UAWs strike it's going to spell even worse with disastorous consequences , salary folks are screwed to the max all while managers sit with their thumbs firmly up there bums.
Stop it , 5000 people in September , what sorces do you have to back that up buster brown lol
You bet your badge layoffs are coming... another 5000 in September guaranteed
lol, "this is a fact", you have no clue what you are talking about, all trolls in here
How do you know this is a fact
Why would they be generous?
Anyone still there knows what's coming, and if they stay they're gamblers.
Lets hope they offer generous VSP first since another round of layoffs will destroy whatever moral/loyalty left
Engineering gets hit again in October. 8s are getting deleveled. This is fact.
They wanted to lay off the old people first, then theyd figure out what to do with the young people left over.
In a few months, theyll think they have it figured out, and get rid of anyone who doesn't fit in with their vision.
Possibly the next round of layoffs will coincide with the introduction of the new Corvette, Mary is numb enough to do it.
When the cuts were made, they had no clue what the new organization would look like.
Now they need to figure out what the new organization looks like, and where to put the people that are left (and figure out what to do with the dead weight that didn't get sacked).
A smart person might have drafted a new structure first, then figured out what talent is needed to fill it, and proceed to eliminate headcount to get there. But this is the same group of people who spend $2 Billion per year on autonomous with no business plan to make that back, AND who think the best future for GM is to match the worst companies out there in terms of $ spent on engineering.
Will more cuts be made? Oh yes. That is, unless the young and mobile employees wake up and leave GM in droves, as they would be wise to do at this point.
Yes, I heard the same plus a substantial number of 8's will be de-leveled to 7's. Start looking for positions outside of GM now to be prepared if you are part of a layoff or lose your 8. Executive leaders are not being candid with their employees.
I was one of the laid off in Feb. From the career fairs I went to, I talked with former and current 8th level EGMs who were told that their dept/position will be gone and to start looking for new job. Not sure the extent of these layoffs will be though
