Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

The layoffs are a self fulfilling prophecy

The layoffs are a self fulfilling prophecy. You do this every 3 months and people will scramble to grab any lifeline elsewhere. 3rd tier know-nothing contractors come in to fill the void and you get expectant results.

Clients are very keen on quality and they will switch vendors if they lose faith in your product. Why do you think companies like Arista are hyper growing/thriving and already have over double the market cap of Juniper? This isn't an accident or by some clever marketing.

@Ymcm8Xo-eeqb Angling for a double dip is a ballsy proposition.

-- The economy can shut down and with it the jobs.

-- And don't forget the comp at other companies, which is substantially higher which easily makes up and trounces any package. RSUs at other companies are skyrocketing. That's well into the six figures, net, just there for almost anybody.

-- If J's rep continues to wither, so will too the Recruiter's eventual desire to give you the time of day to interview.

-- And don't forget skill set. If your skills/work experience are in a legacy field and can't do modern stuff, you're doing your career a disservice as you'll limit your career possibilities/comp and longevity to legacy domains only.

...Yup, that wait and hope for double dip doesn't look so savory any more,, does it?....

Agree. Plenty of people hanging out waiting for a payoff because they know lay-off coming eventually. A couple months of free vacation then a couple months of double-dipping. Beats proactively leaving for a new job.

@Ymcm8Xo-8fmh your choice of words "code monkey" is offense to those of us who are hard working and capable software engineers. While I agree that majority of software engineers are replaceable, it does not help the situation when you demean software engineers with the term "code monkey". I don't think that Juniper is laying off senior developers because they are "code monkeys". Rather it's because Juniper wants to cut costs by hiring in India where you can get 3 or more developers for the price of 1. I do agree with you comment that the previous person does not know what SE stands for in Juniper.

@Ymcm8Xo-4osv you've never even worked for Juniper have you if you don't know what SE means... yes software engineers are in demand, but only a small percentage of software engineers are truly good, the rest are mostly code monkeys and executives in the industry know it. That's why so many Junos software engineers were laid off last 2 years.

Why are layoffs traditionally on Wednesdays? Quickly becoming my least favorite day of the week--particularly post quarter end.

@Ymcm8Xo-4zqz Indeed. Software Engineers are the New Gods of Silicon Valley. They will realistically double their comp leaving Juniper for a FANG. They just have to Leetcode prep well for the Golden Ticket--which is very much attainable if they're not lazy about it.

@Ymcm8Xo-4sgg haha agree. Every SE I know that got laid off got multiple offers within 1 or 2 months. If you're smart and can talk the talk, most vendors will hire you! @Ymcm8Xo-4dnp I've worked with good and bad AMs.

I was an SE that got laid off and now with a service provider. I can tell you some of my previous AMs are total aholes who care not about quality and can spin a good story to sell c-appy solutions to customers. Most of the SEs I worked with were pretty nice and hard working. We along side REs and PS had to be brought in to fix quality issues, just part of the job I guess.

I think, we need to outsource CEO/CEF/CDO/CPO/CTO to India.

It will save millions of dollars.

I agree wih the earlier comment... You can ship any job anywhere, except AMs and SEs, who need to work face to face with customers.

If you feel threatened because your TAC job may move to India, that is no reason to call AMs and SEs a-holes. TAC should be thankful for poor quality, because it keeps them employed. TAC and QA moves to where engineering is.

Let's stop the name calling, and post productive comments. Let's agree that you do need quality engineers, AMs/SEs. The problem is that both are indispensable and should not be outsourced and replaced with cheap labor in India. Sadly, it's just a numbers game at this point. Company cares about saving costs by outsourcing and shipping jobs to Inida rather than retaining valuable but costly talent.

@Ymcm8Xo-1tai if you ship engineering jobs, the products will be sh1tty and you AMs and SEs will be selling garbage to your customers. Of course you may not care and just call in JTAC, REs, engineering to clean up the mess. In other words, you sound like one of those @55hole AM or SE.

Since AMs and SEs are already selling junk with poor quality, 'no product market fit', and most of all making every effort to keep the revenue coming in, you need to get your head out of your a-- and show some respect for the few people in this company who walk the extra mile to keep the lights on.

You can’t make products that people want to buy anyway so who needs sales people? According to RR and the product team the products sell themselves!

You can ship TAC/Support/call center jobs.

You can ship QA/Test jobs.

You can ship engineering jobs.

The day you ship Account Manager and SE jobs,

You can't ship products.

That's part of plan. Shift jobs to India where you can hire on average 3 for the price of 1 in the US. For contractors the ratio is even higher. Constant layoffs, sifting of jobs to India, replacing permanent employees with contractors all contribute to the problem. As a result, quality suffers and companies start looking to other vendors. Just talk with you local account managers and SEs and you'll hear the horror stories about Junos quality these days!
