Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

Who is OPG?

You want to know who I am? I think you no the answer.

I am the employee that has put in the time over many years that wants the payoff. I am the employee that joined the team last Q and is now invested in driving results. I am the executive that believes we have the right talent to overcome the obstacles in front of us.

I am not the employee willing to give up at the first challenge. I am not the teammate that will pass the buck and leave my team hung out to dry. I am not the executive with some golden parachute and little risk of failure.

I am the CSP dedicated to driving a great customer expierience. I am the Commercial Sales Rep who is committed to driving growth. I am the Product Manager working with the team to innovate and deliver against the needs of the market.

I am you. I am the part of you that wants to succeed. I am the part of you committed to this team. I am the part of you willing to accept a challenge. I am the one that will go to work tomorrow and thank my team mates and thank them for the support but hold them them to the excellence that I deliver.

I am you, You are One Positive Guy (girl).

God speed,

One Positive Guy

"Totally convinced OPG is a troll..."

from @YY6A3P6-bxv

Agreed. Only a troll would create an entire thread about himself. This guy is a wack job drowned in his ego. He writes 5 paragraphs, each starting with “I am...”, which underscores his self-importance, yet he's babbling vague BS.

This other poster at another thread is spot on about OPG:

“He does it [trolling this layoff site] because he's a mo--n. Only a mo--n would deliver a pep-talk/townhall-type schtick on a layoff site. A layoff site! Everybody here has either been laid-off, or has left on their own, or thinking of splitting because the company is collapsing. So only a profound mo--n would deliver such a tired schtick to this audience.

The other explanation: he's your garden-variety manic depressive, most likely an SGAS manager, trolling this site because it's the only place where he could feel (at least in his mind) a tad more precious in the world. It does make for a good laugh to see how a deranged Sungard manager is having a meltdown right before us.”

I will say - if you are a CSP, you're in a precarious position. When I started at SG, management was dedicated to retention. I worked with CSPs and I worked directly with customers. At that time, I managed every concern the customer had and I was proud of my work. Then, when revenue wained, the model providing dedicated support was abandoned because it wasn't profitable. I should've left then - but I stayed - you know, the economy and all at the time.

There are a lot of employees who want to provide real service to our customers. Unfortunately SG is focussed on stats. If the stat's don't look right, then obviously there's a problem. SG customers want a real support experience - they don't want someone looking at an issue and saying 'yeah, not in the contract' or giving the most obvious answer in order to close an issue in 10 days.

I stated this in another post. SunGard is a management driven company as opposed to a technology driven company. There's so much focus on stats that the bottomline gets lost - is the customer happy? Basically - no - they aren't happy. The reason:

  • when you cut costs to a skeleton crew you're going to get what you pay for

  • when you set hard targets to address an issue, people will adapt

I've often thought about the services SunGard provides and I honestly think the company would be more profitable with a total co-lo model providing no post-deployment support. SG has been over-selling for years - customers are catching on . You can sell a customer the moon - can you back it up? Doubtful - and I've been here 14 yrs - I'm not pulling your leg.

Value prop?

Focus on ensuring resilience of your workloads based on criticality and delivered in a consumable model. More specifically we ensure uptime of applications through accessibility to secure data and infrastructure in a cost conscious model provided across both singular and heterogeneous environments.

Positive you will still have something negative to say,

One Positive Guy.

You also cannot respond to facts..... if you are truly an exec, guiding direction, then sgas is done. Btw - for the 4th time, what is the compelling sgas value proposition...???
