Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

5/30 layoff

Ok, so given how poorly oracle is doing mybbest estimate is that the coming layoff at the end of May will be about 10,000 worldwide. Oracle has fallen so far behind it can no longer afford to lay people off on drive and drabs, they will have to take out the biz ax to sales as well as development. Thoughts ?

nothing has changed since the original plan decided in dec last year, soon after Q2 cloud results. slightly less than 2000 ppl worlwide (mainly US, India and China) in dev and non-sales orgs by end of FY (almost done, don't expect any new major layoffs until next FY).

around 4000 ppl worlwide in all orgs, but mainly support and sales, by end of Q2FY20.

the cloud results of Q2FY20 will determine if/when the next round will be.

the approved plan ending Q2FY20 is for less than 5% of total workforce, I understand affected ppl are important even if only few, but from an outside pov ths is just a smal hair-triming.

much more important will be the shakeoff of some important names, that will happen in the close future. that will give a clear indication to the market, and it is one of the reason why stocks are goinf steadily up.

There were a couple of posts a while ago that there would be additional layoffs in May for performance reasons. Is that still the case? Is there still such a thing that you think will happen in May?

Looks like we agree on the logic, let the layoffs begin!

"Given how poorly Oracle is doing..."

Is that a given? We all know it's not at AWS or Msft levels of cloud adoption yet but anything below them is up for grabs and with TK at Google, what are their chances? Oracle still has robust onprem paying customers. If you want to put all your efforts into making nothing happen, f--- off already. I don't understand this constant b--ching and whining. Sure, I complain, but it's with the interest of making things better and making things work.

The logic of a large layoffs is pretty straightforward: oracle’s revenues are declining, the 3 stooges are desperate to keep up the share price, the market in on to the fact that massive share buybacks are the only reason the share price had not crashed, EPS s---s when you factor out the share buybacks - so what are the 3 stooges going to do? The next logical step is to announce a major restructuring with massive layoffs to reduce costs, push up EPS and give the market the [completely and totally false] impression that management (the 3 completely laughable stooges) are taking steps to get the company on the right track. Me thinks the era of small layoffs in dribs and drabs is over, worked for a while but no more. Time for the next phase on these geniuses’ plan.

Yeah, they will axe 130,000 ppl and Oracle will shutdown at that time. You must've been waiting for that day, right?

If 10,000 by end of May will be laid off, that will be Big news right? Would that not impact oracle's image in the market?

If this 10,000 just a guesstimate or does anyone have any unofficial official info on this?

What's the point of these kind of meaningless post? I guess 50,000, he guesses 100,000, thoughts?

There were tens of posts guessing March.21 would effects thousands and it turns out only hundreds. In HQ at least, all those I know who were affected and want to stay in O, have been able to find internal transfer pretty fast and easily. I got around 20 sample data, so it's representative.
