I mean seriously. To be honest I’m a GE employee that doesn’t have a connection with that place, but as long as I’ve been on this forum, and I\ve been on it for quite some time, layoffs at Schenectady have always been mentioned. What’s going on there? Are they planning to close it down eventually?

The chicks are hotter there I have heard
No more or less people than were there twenty years ago. Maybe that's the problem. Nothing ever changes. Ever
@YD3U5nC-1rxn...Obviously a young T-rate with no knowledge of the history of GE in Schnectady. What qualifies as " lots"? There used to be 10 times the number of people on EACH SHIFT as there is now on all shifts combined!!
What are the business units still operating from Schtdy? Any one knows for sure?
Yeah the place just reeks of confidence!! It's actually complete denial and stupidity of what's really going on. You're just not smart enough to know any better and that's how GE has always liked to keep us!!
Schenectady still has lots of people left today. It's not closed. It still exists as we know it. Sorry for the good news!!!
At all of the facilities I have worked at that are now closed, normally had a security guard or two per shift on site along with an hourly facilities leader to chase out the homeless or call the cops on them when the broke in.
This is how it goes in the first 3-5 years after a closure.
After that look for the company to try to convince the local city to buy the land and forgive the past environmental sins.
Schnectady as we know it will cease to exist. What will remain will be castings (until it's sold off), the power house and waste water treatment, keeping the EPA away and avoiding another Hudson river debacle.

Yet it hasn't happened. Not ever. Never will. Maybe you should make a different life.
I think Schenectady will survive at somewhat a smaller size than today. Not
so much because of a great workforce but because the DEC/EPA will come
down on GE like a ton or bricks on required environmental clean-up actions.
Probably most likely that it is being ran. They got rid of all the senior knowledgeable engineers and replaced them with college kids who know nothing about the products we make. So yeah probably
