Thread regarding SAP layoffs

Reapplying for a job

I heard one of the laid off guys was told he can reapply at SAP - pretty much immediately. If this is true, I can't understand why this would be a thing.

Why would you lay off somebody just to invite them right back in? What exactly is SAP achieving with that?

It's a real kick in the face and gut when you have to apply for your old job at a lower job grade. But at the end of the day, you have to take it because you need a job to support your family. If management and HR work together, I am sure they will find where they can cut the fat else where instead of downgrading a position that is truly productive and beneficial to the company. Oh, never mind - I forgot that the real fat exists with the management team (useless directors without any direct reports) and all the waste in HR's diversity programs.

I heard of story of a T4 TQM laid off, then immediately there is new posting for T3 Cloud TQM. Would you apply if you have always been performing and you get laid off, and it so happens that there is a new role same location of exactly the same skills but one grade lower?

@pff is correct, you need to be well connected

After I was laid off in 2015, I applied for my old job position (exact same job description) after the 1-year wait period. Even though I knew the hiring manager and provided a list of solid references, HR rejected my application without any reasons. They ended hiring an "early talent" with less than 1-year experience compared to my 8-years experience with excellent performance record. Diversity at SAP is awesome!!

Sure anyone can apply for anything but you won’t get hired....unless you are well connected.

SAP has imposed a 2 year wait for all impacted before then can be hired (even as a c-user). In 2015, it was a 1 year wait.

If it truly was the roles/jobs being eliminated then why is there a 2 year moratorium on re-hiring the people? Obviously, HR does not advertise this but layoffs are flagged in the system.

The roles/jobs were eliminated, not the people. It was not generally understood to be a "fire the underperformers" situation. So if the same people can find other roles that's fantastic. I personally know two guys who have landed other jobs within SAP after having their roles eliminated
