Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

SE lay-off today

A bunch of SE’s let go today. At least a dozen from Web and some from cable and telco. Business is WAY down. Falling as fast as morale. I am safe but it’s time to stop wasting time and find a new gig on my own terms. RIP JNPR

5-8 is the ideal for direct reports. Anything above this becomes unmaneagable.

And that's a very Bad thing as execution and accountability get thrown out the window.

@YCX5Pm6-cwnr I've seen the same problems in Herndon. Some directors or managers have amassed a large number of direct reports (I've seen 15 to 25), where it used to be 5 to 8. These folks are not really managing any more, but just growing their own careers, and enlarging their turfs to show their importance.

@YCX5Pm6-1kji yes just look at the directors,

senior directors and VPs growing an empire in

Bangalore with huge number of direct reports,

freshers and contractors. It looks to be part of the

executive team's strategy sadly

This is true in Sunnyvale as well. Fiefdoms have been built by unscrupulous leaders all over Juniper from the top down - even Rami.

The problem is, usually the characters that get caught up in this type of political meandering are less than ideal employees who do that know their head from their a--. So the decisions they make are whacked and the results of these decisions take the company in one direction - down!

@YCX5Pm6-1jdp AMs are usually pretty safe, many of them hard nosed sobs, the types execs like. Us hardworking SEs usually get the boot first. Not sayin all AMs are bad, just many of them.

To senior executives at Juniper:

One problem with these stealth layoffs is that those of us who are still left with a job: 1. has to pick up a heavier load 2.morale goes down as many on this site has pointed out 3. people start to make short term instead of long term decisions that may not be in the best interest of the company. I for one really like working for Juniper and have so for over 10 years now. I don't believe we are down and out. However because of reason 1, I've become burned out for months at a time in the past 3 years with all these lay offs. Each time it happens, my workload increases to a sickening level for several months. My manager actually cares and tries to help, but our those at the VP or director level do not and still want the same deliverables. Recently I've been pinged by recruiters to join other companies and now I'm considering leaving. The only thing making me stay is that I have a good manager. If Juniper does not stop these stealth layoff that affect not only those laid off but also those left behind, I for one may leave in the near future.

Maybe he had another job already lined up. So now he gets salary from new job + severance from Juniper.

@YCX5Pm6-2vfln I don't know how anyone can find it an "immediate relief". Hopefully that person (you?) has a spouse that holds the fort down.

If you guys are visiting this site, I hope you can foresee the writing on the wall and take action to find another gig BEFORE the musical chair jig is up. No group is being spared (other than maybe Contrail, but those guys are facing great attrition too from them leaving voluntarily for greener pastures).

@YCX5Pm6-2vfl, the person who was let go is probably more relieved than you know.

There was a stealth layoff last Wednesday AND NOW this Wednesday!

....Then there's the rumored upcoming layoffs in May.

How can anyone concentrate or put proper required effort in a job where the next week could be your last! It's like the mentality of being diagnosed with a Terminal illness with 4 weeks to live--nobody is going to be thinking work/deadlines taking precedence. People will put MINIMUM effort to skate by and this will affect EVERY engine in Juniper to further slide into the abyss.

How can this not RUIN morale and make good workers to scramble and leave ASAP?!

Oh brother!

RR and Human Resources need to come clean about this. Open book discussion on what is going on is needed to rally the troops and get everyone back to work. This nonsense has to stop now.

No more layoffs. No more! No more!! No more!!!

Another Wednesday, another stealth layoff.

Good luck to all those affected. You WILL find something better!

This could be part of VS's strategy to get rid of higher priced senior SEs and bring in kids through a 3-6 month training program "like we used to do at Cisco..."

@YCX5Pm6 Were these senior or junior SEs that go affected? How about AMs?
