Don't need a news article to tell me the system is broken. This country is going to be run into the ground by greedy executives. I don't care how many hours you work, you cannot work 300 times harder than your employees. So why are they making 300 times more?

And you wonder why auto sales are going down. Yes some of it can be attributed to a changing industry, but who even has money to buy a new car these days when everyone is crushed under low wages and costs of living, especially healthcare, that is spiraling out of control?

For one thing, we all need to band together and be represented collectively, not just the plant workers. And I'm not talking about the UAW, which has become just as corrupt as everything else with leaders that are in the executives' pockets. True collective representation of the workers, for the workers.

Look at the supplier strikes in Matamoros Mexico over the last few months. The workers decided not to take it any more, and they ground the supply chain to a halt. And you know what? They won concessions from the management. People in this country need to start to realize that workers hold the real power over a company, but only when they're unified and act collectively.

If we all collectively decided not to put up with this any more, we wouldn't have to. But until we do that, it will be more layoffs, more cuts, and more inequality between what executives and normal employees make.

I think the main problem is the corporations and politicians have pushed that being a "true American" is shutting up and working hard and not questioning or trying to change anything. The ole "this is how we have been doing it for years" or "this is how we do it in Murica!" rhetoric that many people still fall for. Can't ask for better healthcare, that's communism. Can't ask for better pay, that's communism. Can't ask corporations to pay more taxes, that's Un-American!

I hope the attitude of younger generations that employers are actually more disposable than employees causes change. Just waiting for the boomers to die off....

@YAvOhW0-1dbd I'm American and agree. (Millennial though, so not bought into Boomer propaganda). Another sad thing is that there are plenty of expensive costs we pay here that we wouldn't in Europe that would actually put us on par with the high tax rates. For instance we HAVE to save for our retirements and really you need to put in a 10% minimum if you actually want to retire. Plus our absolutely insane health care costs. For me as a single healthy adult in his 20s I pay about $200 a month just for the insurance ($500 a month if my wife was included on mine) and that doesn't include that actual costs you pay if you actually need to go to the doctor. We might pay 15-25% on our tax return but add in retirement and healthcare costs and we are probably above 40%!

@YAvOhW0-1tyk, I never said I wanted a college dropout to make $40 an hour. I specifically said that I don't agree with the UAW and it is just as corrupt as the company it's supposed to be negotiating against.

But if you want to twist around what I'm saying, that's on you, and there's nothing I can do about it.

I truly don't understand why you seem to be so furious about the prospect of someone on a line making $40 an hour, and yet you don't seem to have a problem with the rate CEOs are paid at. $18 million per year works out to $5,769 an hour, and I'm being generous and assuming 60 hour weeks every week of the year.

So if you're so concerned about fairness of pay, why are you so fixated on a line worker making $40/hr and not the guy making at least $5,769/hr?

I fear the older generations were fed the capitalist Kool aid, confuse communism with socialism, and, hence, they naturally will dismiss this idea. I think we need to look at Germany's model, where there is collaboration between worker and employer, and concepts like partial employment instead of unemployment.

But I guess Americans want their guns and would rather spend their meager wages at McDonald's instead of having that amount be taxed for proper healthcare.

Yes greedy executives are part of the problem. But this is nothing new. The root cause of declining sales is the out of balance union presence that drives base wages beyond what is reasonable. Paying some high school dropout 40 bucks an hour to push buttons on an automated production line is your real problem. Then, using your sub par IQ, you believe more of this model will fix the prob. What a useless twit.

Agreed, this is not without merit, and not without precedent. Balance of power will shift almost as a natural course of nature does. History repeating itself...
