Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Depends on the employee. Most people now are FT30, but there are still some FT40 folks out there. Sears has guaranteed them either 30 or 40 hours a week and cannot cut them below that unless the employee takes vacation or Sears furloghs them. Sears’ usual reaction is just to lay them off and replace with PT people and less hours.

It depends on the store and favoritism at times. Full timers by law need to get the 30 or more hours (atleast in California). If for some odd reason you got less than 30 hours that week you can tell management whats going on. If they don't do nothing than you go to labors commission and than it will get settled more likely or get a nice fine.

The thing with part timers they get the bottom of the barrel because no law of how many hours a part timer gets. I was one of the lucky ones when I was part time in my store I would average 20 hours a week which was good. I remember seeing some co workers get as little as 4 to 6 hours a week I even saw once 3 hours. I was is this a joke? He would show me his schedule and I was like wow...

Also if anyone thinks "the new Sears" is going to give improvement think again. Expect the same and more cuts like always. This new Sears is a bunch of BS.

If they expect part timers to run the stores then they want the stores to fail, close. Part time can't even do the amount of work full timers do. The part time we have in our Sears store can't even tie their own shoes. Sad but why complain, just look for a new job.

I'm full time 30 and used to get 35 - 36 hours a week. I now only get 30 hours a week period. I also have had my workload increased significantly. After this week's District conference call my store manager came to me and told me to be prepared for the elimination of full timers with the new Sears. Needless to say I am looking for a new job and should have one by the end of the month. The original poster should do the same.

OP instead of complaining, why not just get a new job? Serious question.

Rather than having anxiety attacks over other peoples hours I would be looking for other employment as your " new company " has a limited life span !!

@pdn ok you’re guaranteed 32 but never once have I saw a full time hours be cut to 32 they have ALWAYS gotten 40

Why are full time hours NEVER cut to the bare minimum

And of course in our store they are all management if some sort and make their own schedule

Regardless...part timers should not be the only ones to get their hours cut to bare minimum

@lki Not necessarily the case at my store. Good, hardworking people get as little as 4 hours a week while mo--ns who just walk around and play on their phone the whole time get as many hours as they want. One dude even grabs a cart and goes shopping on company time and still gets hours

At least at my store, people only get 3-4 hours/week if they're bad or very unreliable.

I have a set schedule and get 15 hours/week. I open on Saturday, off on Sunday and close on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.... perfect for a part-timer

I'm a part timer and I always get 30 hours.
