Instead of promoting from within and training senior engineers with new skills, Juniper is instead laying off senior engineers and hiring freshers just because they know how to code better and the cost of a fresher is 1/3 that of a senior engineer. Juniper is really a great place to work if you are a fresher and want to put Juniper on your resume but just don't stay longer than 2 or 3 years after you've learned everything you need to learn.

@XwnpLaU-bbvd your comment on BK implementing microservices where it doesn't make sense is reflecting on a much greater problem - a CTO that's over his head, and a CEO and board of directors that's too stubborn to admit it.

The problem with Juniper engineering is that it is no longer innovating. It's more copying what the industry is doing: BK imposing microservices where it does not make sense, senior management pushing automation when engineers can't even configure juniper routers and switches properly. If Juniper wants to survive it must shore up fundamentals and focus on strengths...then and only then can it innovate and thrive. Sadly my team is in survival mode with all these layoffs and I've had my best guys leave in the past 2 years for better companies in the bay area.

Alpha Aplha is someone who promotes plagiarism, favotistsm . He manages everything by putting it on excel and keep tracking the sheets.

If there is one thing that need to be changed in Juniper it will be Alpha alpha

Nu-Kappa is equally evil. The way he talks to engineers is below bay area standard and unsurprisingly one of the reasons why good people are leaving. Nobody has the courage to stand against Nu-K. Such leadership is a shortcut to failure. As a leader, one should be approachable and Nu-Kappa acts like he knows the code to the core. Managers usually sugarcoat things while discussing them in his meeting. I don't blame them bcoz NK starts shouting if things are not well.

Is Ramya Malu a VP now ? Both Ramya Malu and Nu Kappa were Fellows and were ICs when I was in Juniper.

IMHO, NK is better, has written lot of code for the company & can be reasoned with.

Can't say the same about RM, who cannot stand smart engineers.

The entire India org is full of incompetent VP's and Sr. Directors, most of who were associated with AA in their past life. Other than manipulating PR's, the only thing they are good it is to nod their head in a direction that will please AA. AA comes to India quite often, (well, the right thing to say is he is in the US occasionally), and does the same repeat-drill of thrashing management and Senior Engineers over quality. So much that people don't give a $hit to what he says, and continue to manipulate PR's..

Top man, MK can be made a brand ambassador for any popular coffee chain and there is no sane reason why he's still there. Most of the senior technical (Sr. Staff, PE, DE1, DE2) folks in India have left in the last one-year and attrition is growing faster than the stock price.

Program management is seeing attrition, as they cannot tolerate the unrealistic BS that the engineering puts them through.

Most of the good guys in Hiring teams have quit and moved to greener pastures.

HR is deaf, mute and generally invisible, except when there is a lay-off.

I wonder if the company will last 2019.. I really hope it does as I have fond memories of this company from 10-years-back, when it was an engineer's paradise. Things have gotten worse in the last 5 years.

Get rid of AA & all his cronies and the company has a chance to survive.

Makes me wonder WTF HR and the C-Suite does at Juniper, bacause the types of human resources nightmares that occur in this company are not normal. They are completely out of the ordinary. Illegal. Discriminatory.

Of course the reaction will be to delete this message. Go ahead. The WSJ is monitoring every move.

With the same spirit of Alpha-Alpha, I guess you should refer him as Nu-Kappa. And yes, he certainly fits the profile.

Are you folks referring to NK when you say that IC got promoted to VP?

On a different note, I think Alpha-Alpha term is very smart :)

There is no corporate value here, one day, one Individual Contributor who never managed a single person, can become a head of large group, only thing he did well is kissing another VP's a--, who in turn is managing his org by threading.

The head of Engineering Alpha-Alpha is known for keeping grudges and then letting people go when next round of lay off come. He promoted a couple of his buddies to VP role from an Individual contributor role which resulted in some competent people leaving Juniper because they dont want to work under these folks who had no people management skills , never managed a single person but one good day they become VPs managing 100's of people.

That explains how Alpha-Alpha promotes nepotism which lead to layoffs and people leaving.

I used to work in WFD. My manage's only goal was to manipulate GNATS to paint an optimistic picture of our software quality. He was not interested in building anything worthwhile. All he did was close scopes in GNATS and pressurized his reports to do the same. In case a fix was absolutely needed, he insisted on only hacks/workarounds instead of real fixes. Such a mo--n. My favorite moment was when I quit that sh--hole.

My favorite moment occurred last week when I resigned and moved away from that negativity. It was a great company when I joined. At present, senior management s---s at various levels. I will be surprised if I see this company listed on the stock market in 2025.
