Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Next major round?

Any ideas on when we can expect next major round of layoffs at CenturyLink? This constant worrying over small batches of layoffs is, in all honesty, becoming exhausting. I'd much rather they get it over with at once, so we know where we stand and can move on from there.

Like this, my anxiety is becoming nearly unmanageable.

No but with continually declining revenues, and over $50bn of debt the dividend will also be cut so this Company is a complete basketcase. It cannot invest to grow as it uses all its FCF to pay dividends and service debt, so there's no $$$ left to invest to grow.

Unlike you guys not sleeping with stomach problems I do not have anxiety because I am doing the smart thing. I am trying to find a new job at age 59 before these rat b--tards come in hand me the Box with the Uber treatment.

I'm right there with you regarding the anxiety! It's now at the point where I am not sleeping at night, constant stomach aches, and literally shaking! I'm 3 years away from retiring, with only 2-1/2 years service with CTL.... who the f*ck will hire someone at my age?

Then, to add to the misery, I'm being told that CTL will NOT honor the published RIF policy. I'm being told that they give you 2-weeks notice, make you work it, and the escort you to the door.... never paying the 2-weeks per year of service; with the "so sue me" attitude!

Damn, hate to hear about NOHD. That's a large center. How many affected? That include Sales? Bullet point * Try to come back from 8 years of declining broadband sales* . Dayum. But I'm sure it was no surprise. Anytime departments merge, heads will roll. GO PATS!

I like many in my job classification take numerous pills to cope with the corporate c-ap. I’m a non-union employee and I worry about the same c-ap the union guys do. Nearest I can tell it doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, we’re all equally f—ked. How can you compete with the c-ap they try to push and don’t get me started on buzz and splunk. They threaten disciplinary action all the time if you don’t buzz someone. I’m gonna stay as long as possible and make them pay to get rid of me.

The rumor I heard today from a couple people in different departments goes like this. When the union contract is up in June, Centurylink is going to ax all the union employees and replace them with contractors from Pauley. Heard that from a union tech and a CSR.

Oh geez people. CTL provides the Backbone for Google, Amazon and AWS.

Residential customers are high maintenance. If ya had a wife like that and she wouldn't do much for you, should you keep her?

If you aren't satisfied, get a new job.

If you are satisfied, stick with, shut up and save your money.

I saved 213k in my 401k in 11 years paying for an expensive divorce and a home for my kids.

I am not any smarter than y'all and I left early with nearly a million smackers in my account.

You bet I sacrificed a lot in those 10 years, but now it's paid off.

You can do it...you don't need a new cat, you just gotta make it work.

Save more. Wells Fargo notified me every October or November I was maxed on my 401k.

I maxed out my Roth too..

I made 60 k a year and was able to save 30k....and I am as stupid as you all...

So if I can...so can you.

Work hard, save big and work some more. I promise you Jeff Storey isn't a lay winner.

With no retirement it is no loss because you can get a c-ap job anywhere.

I ordered a pots line to my home and it took 2 installers and 1 repair tech to get it installed in 5 days. No wonder management is getting rid of old techs. CenturyLink is a clown show. All three guys rolled up to my home fat, old, dumb and lazy.

it took me 18 yrs to get from 38 K to 48 K , laid off twice , worked for 4 different companies which all eventually became what is now Level3 Link, they paid my bills , they padded my resume , they broke me in the end , so close to being able to have financial security, thrown to the wolves of ageism , here is your cardboard box, literally the director brought me a cardboard box ! , it was a going away gift. I helped build the network from the ground up, I have proud memories which mean nothing. I have a 401 K rolled into an IRA, it is all smoke and mirrors , you do not have a career, you have a temporary job, good luck to you

CenturyLink is a lot like the Story in Jaws when Quint was telling about the Torpedo of the USS Indianapolis and the 1500 Sailors in the water, Every Quarter the Sharks come cruising, we slap at the water and make noise, sometimes the Sharks go away and sometimes the don't go away. You know when you hear the screams when some Organization gets surplused.

A great way to run a business...people talk more about getting surplused or who’s getting axed then getting anything done. Bravo 👏 to CenturyLink the most mismanaged company around, your employees always worried about their employment. What a sh-- show... while other companies are thriving through this economic boom, were left with a crumbling business and no positive direction. What a joke....

Even in the "good old days" 20 years ago, everyone in management knew you never got past midpoint of your pay grade. Everyone knew that going in.

Ratings were never more than average because the bucket for raises never had enough for decent raises of everyone in the department.

The only thing thats changed is before, they had balls and would tell you they were going to lay you off instead of the old 10 minute cardboard box uber treatment you get now. You never had to wonder if you had a job onenday to the next either.

This is management by fear, keep cutting and push the rest to do more till they leave or break and then hire another level of employees to push as hard as they can with empty promises and unreachable levels of salary and promotions due to burning them out and breaking their spirit before they can get there.

This is how they push through each contract with the Unions as well as get entry level management to work their 60 to 80 hours a week.

Been here 30+ years and everytime someone else takes over, this is the norm. If you are old United Telephone, you are one of the few still hanging in here with me.

There will be rolling lay offs until the company is stable. Which will be never.

Rumor is today is the day that sales will be cut.
