EMC Bangalore 215 Employees Impacted

EMC Bangalore storage group (ViPr, SRM, vplex) has been sold off to HCL by Dell. All the 215 employees from senior director onwards are asked to resign and accept offer from HCL. Their salaries are matched. This is in effect from Feb 1st. Dell wants to reduce Capex after going Public. Many many groups will follow in similar lines.

I have worked on both the product and services side, eventually, HCL will bring in its own cheap resources to make profits. Services companies thrive by resource cost arbitrage, they are expert at it.

@XiG6ud5-ygyg It's more than 11 actually . The core product team lost most of it's member expect for a technically useless manager . If he has been fired then they could have cut the expense of the team by half . So most of the technically capable team member who can clear an interview left. Remaining people will be out soon too. HCL is hiring people to maintain the product and it's going to gutter.

The worst part is the even when they were planning this move, they kept on hiring people . This is the worst move I have seen from a big company

Dell should sell off mid range storage in toto to HCL. HCL can do a better job than these EMC employees at 50% cost. Why pay so much to do c-ap sustenance work on sunset products. Running system and regression tests can be done by basic engineering organisations.

The next thing they should do is sc-ap the whole Trident product team across Hopkinton, Israel and Bangalore. Michael Dell should realise this is a fake product which won’t see life light of the day. Dell will save money and he can invest more in VMware.

Selling EE and DEV teams to HCL also and reducing benefits. Dell is killing off EMC piece by piece

"I would say smart move by Dell, better than layoffs certainly." - There is no such thing as smart move, good move or bad move. Dell is lucky that it got a buyer for sc-apped product. That is not always the case. It just winds down the business when it does not work - a simple business basics.

All managers should be chopped... let a technical architect lead a team and keep only engineers. Everything will improve. Not sure, what are the roles for Directors, Sr, Directors, VP, SVP? Do they add any economic value to the organization? Occasionally shows up in media, a BS call All-Hands to show themselves off. This managerial class has spoiled many great organizations. They are only parasite to an org.

Rumor in EMC CoE bangalore is that Dell wants to wind up all the EMC operations in Bangalore by outsourcing to HCL. Only VMware will be retained by Dell.

it seems dell is not able to manage offices, a good move and offload each and every offices to service companies.

Its not technically a Layoff. The 215 employees have an assured job offer from HCL. They just shift from Dell-EMC to HCL as the employer. They continue working in their old project except from another company.
