Honestly cannot believe the whining on this site. A bit of history here: half day Fridays were implemented decades ago as a summer benefit only. Then, because the company was doing well, they were extended until the holiday shut down. No, whiners, most companies do NOT shut down between Christmas and New Years. That is pretty unique to the toy industry and ad agencies and Mattel employees are lucky to enjoy that benefit. Anyway, because the company was doing so well, half day Fridays were ultimately extended year-round. So while everyone worked hard, they also got to play hard...enjoying good compensation, half day Fridays all year round, and generous time off during the holidays. Fast forward many years: Mattel, once the world's largest and most profitable toy company is CIRCLING THE DRAIN!!! Yes, I understand that (some of) the remaining employees work hard. But there is NO REASON that management should authorize so much time off. I understand that the pullback of this benefit is "inconvenient." Employees will always complain when a benefit is taken away. But as a shareholder, I'm thrilled to hear this. Mattel's stock decline has impacted shareholders in a huge way. There is no reason that employees should be complaining because they have to work 5 days a week like the rest of the population. Bunch of entitled overpaid people who have been too lazy to find a new job and are complaining about the sinking ship. Turn the ship around and maybe the half days will return!

OP, I don't quite believe your post is legit, but if it is, then you need to widen perspective. Employees working full Fridays WILL NOT save this company.
Losing the Friday afternoons will have no positive effect on the amount of hard work many employees continually do to get the job done vs the lazy employees who don't. At very best, this will all remain the same, if Mattel is lucky.
The company failings are not due to the general population of employees, their work commitment, or how much work gets done. Almost all of it is due to a growing list of poor decisions, reliance on Barbie, poor investments, millions being paid to upper management, who have little or zero positive impact on the company.
All this while, often, talented people are laid off year after year... that or they quit because what was once a great place to work is becoming less and less so.
Stop whining and start WINNING! LOLOLOLOL!!!!
Can you shout that from the big sign on the lawn wearing a KEN COSTUME and waving glittery pom poms
Oh I gots tears in ma eyes this is so funny! OP, you so funny!
Right. Entitled. I work overtime all the freaking time and sometimes weekends when needed. I answer emails at night. I do this because I know my Friday’s are half day. But I’m done. I commute 3 hours a day round trip in c-ap traffic. This unlimited vacation is just BS. This is just so people don’t have the need to make sure they use their allotted vacation days. Ive just earned my 3 weeks of vacation and for some newbie associate to have the same vacation days as me frustrates me to no end. I’ve been so frustrated for awhile now but this really motivates me to go elsewhere. Frankly, I’m done with the toy industry.
Someone said this on a different thread but it applies to the cutie OP here:
To sum up the numbskull libertarians here: "In China there's nets on buildings....Americans are such slackers comparatively!!! Be happy you have a job!! I used to walk to school up hill both ways! Change scares me! Blaaaah."
Grow up. This race to the bottom isn't a badge of honor. Realize the best performing companies recruit the best talent while respecting their work/life balance, not this fake unlimited c-ap.
STFU
Stock holders should have bought more stock at 9.00 and sold a 17.00- their loss, they are stockholders, they should know better. No point in complaining here.
1st thing that should of happened, everyone should have been made into salary, then mess with the hours, time off, etc.
Bottom line, everyone left should stop working on those after hour emails. No point. Don't do extra credit stuff where you are not going to get compensation for it.
Also employees should obviously stop concentrating on product. We are going to be a big movie company, start writing those scrips, or dust them off. Or just mine for old IP that no one is asking for movies of.
Sooner, or very soon, the development/design team will be gone (all outsources to MOA) and you will be stuck with a bunch of wannabee Copy-writers, writing scripts and Marketeers, selling franchise's. It will great!
Former AG employee here... Hourly employees worked 40 hrs per week with half day Fridays. In my salaried role, I worked at least 50 hrs per week. In the office 10 or more hours per day and answering emails & conference calls with HK from home in the evening. For those employees losing half day Fridays, I'm sorry.
OP is trollin', trollin' trollin'
Here is some brain candy.. which was better thought out, the elimination of half day Friday and it impact on employees or the CEO’s Christmas holiday email to employees. Both from the leaders desk and both void of thoughtfulness, understanding and a shear number of words. Both must have needed less than a minute to write. A “let them eat cake” attitude surrounded by smoke and mirror environment.
Yo, I hear they’re excited that they can get that guy Harvey from the Weinstein Company to head our new film division. And on the cheap, too! Has YEARS of experience! 😮
In regards to the OP here, who the Hell invited HR into the conversation??
We saw how well you handled the whole MeToo thing here in the company. Maybe you should focus more on that as some of the named perps are still floatin’ around the hallways here. Right, tough guy (or gal?).
Why don’t you get your panties in a bunch over that conversation?!!
Nice use of CAPS. Truth is, this was one of the things that set this company apart from others. And all it cost was the 40th hour given to the hourly people. And then there is the completely BS reason they did it. This decision was clearly not well though out. Leadership either doesn’t care or doesn’t realize how important this perk is/was to the employees.
Thanks Ynon!
it is really not a half day benefit, as employees work extra each day to make up for the time.. work week is 39 hours - year round... that's what hourly employees are paid - 39 hours x hourly rate!
Dude trippin!!!! lol smh
You mad bro?
Thanks for the post RD
Kiss my “entitled” a--. “Inconvenient “ is not how many would describe it, and turning this ship around is no longer a priority for some. As for “overpaid”? Ha! Maybe the salary folks with unlimited vacation.
