Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Let's talk about....

Did any of you been laid off while someone else much more incompetent was chosen to remain?

I did, and it makes me wonder what qualifies a keeper?

companies want young fresh meat thats why.

Compliant and naive is also good. Having a temporary visa or eternal wait for a GC hanging in the balance is also helpful.

OH an using hundred of temps help too. Can always hold out that carrot of FTE. OH, no night or evening work, guess you dont have 'what it takes'.

Dear Dazed and Confused,

Please reload the b-ng and take another hit. Your former job will be filled with new college grad or H1B.

Have a nice day.

I don’t know about incompetence but I recently saw my exact job description in a job posting except the job title was three pay levels lower.

I don’t understand. If my work was becoming more of a commodity then why wasn’t I offered a title reduction/compensation?

Everybody who was laid off while someone more incompetent remained. His initials are SM. If he stopped coming to work, QCOM would be billions better off.

All the usual BS reasons of course. Put it behind you.

Never attach your self worth to who pays you to work.

Thanks for the serious responses.

This is a serious question. It happens very often. By "incompetent" , I don't care about the work history in one's CV. But the effort, discipline, and seriousity performed during the employment period.

If one is willing to put in lots of effort, hours, and has no negative performance reviews, than it is time to wonder...it is what you do, or whom has a personal preference ( that's when the project is still in function, but targets only specific employees).

The political/connected layoffs are always bad. Bad for the affected individual and terrible for the on-going morale declines. Decent engineers are realizing that doing a great job isnt what keeps your job. Thus the 50% of time now spent 'networking' and 'meeting' and 'co-ordinating'. Better to talk than do nowadays.

They didn't ask the simple question to customers: Would you rather keep person A or B. They just said, A has a customer and B's project is ending. Let B go.

"Psychological projection is a theory in psychology"

SM carries on about how the world is against him/Q. Hmmmmmmmm.

GD twits on about 'drive shareholder value' when he means 'enrich me and the execs'

@WzTEFyJ-tei: YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. HARD HARD. MY BOSS CALLED ME '"IMMATURE". PSYCHOLOGICAL Projection. HE ALSO CALLED ME "MENTALLY ILL and IMAGINING THINGS"

It's often politics. I've seen a few laid off due to pure politics. Sometimes it's who doesn't like you. Sometimes they keep an average performer who gets along with a director while picking you, whom the director doesn't care for, even though your skills excel. Another word for it is life.

Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others. For example, a person who is habitually intolerant may constantly accuse other people of being intolerant. It incorporates blame shifting.
