No unit is safe this time around. Payday is November 30th and so are the layoffs coming Friday AM. Schedules have been rearranged to accommodate the in- person and over the phone layoffs. Managers are expected to assume the duties of the departed employees. Objections are met with deaf ears.

Yes. Managers see their bonuses go up for RIFFING people. It's actually a big component of their yearly goals. Just saw employment report shows a record number of people voluntarily left their jobs in December. I bet AIG will have its share of voluntary leavers after STI is paid. Many I used to work with are actively looking and interviewing. I guess that will fit their model of outsourcing everything to Indian contractors.
Northeast Region.
Where was the RIF this am?
A significant RIF happened this AM. More units are on the chopping block.
Not really. Depends on how long you have been here.
We've had large RIF's on a specific day more than once. Either within a business group or across.
The past year plus it is mostly targets weeks with most groups releasing people through the week based on availability of the people and HR.
Some weeks or days are bigger than others.
It has been constant this year on pay weeks and off.
I feel this is the first time the RIF date has been so specific. Is there also an estimate on how many RIFs tomorrow? Normally, it's been a few here and there.
Nothing today 11/29. Tomorrow is the RIF.
How many from GI reserving?
So am I correct in reading the last post that GI reserving it got hit today, means that there were RIF's? Not sure what the post meant.
there is no clear way. GI reserving it got hit today and it was just tap on shoulders. also couple of years ago we saw a group catchup invite and next thing we know around 65 have been rifed
With less claims has anyone heard anything about Compliance. Seems there will definitely be cuts as the company will no longer need as many in those units.
It doesn't matter the day of the week or time of day though it usually happens in the morning, you may be RIF'ed if you're:
-
asked to come in on a day when you normally WFH
-
have not been given new projects lately or been managed
-
get an impromptu invite to show up at office for an in-person meeting with a superior
-
asked to wrap up a project or knowledge share/train
It's sad but there are so many way it's done and they usually try to do it with everyone about the same time to avoid the gossiping and anxiety....
Meeting planners are usually sent to employees that don't work in an office on a regular basis. Where they can do a whole group, they will schedule a meeting for everyone to be in office and then have the Manager come in. Sometimes HR will come in, sometimes they will be conferenced in on a call. It depends what group you are in and if you are scattered in different areas.
My understanding was a meeting planner sent to the riffed employee titled "Catch Up". And, it was usually sent the day before or the same morning. Just wondering if there are any other clues before that.
Don’t fret. There are lots of jobs outside of this sinking ship. If you get RIF’d just start immediately looking for another job. Don’t rest on your severance. Many AIG alums are doing well in better roles with better pay despite being let go.
AIG does everything for a reason. Friday is a convenient day for what could be a massive rif. One former CEO once said: Employees are bodies and expenses. Nothing has changed.
Why would they rif on Friday? Seems more logical to rif on Thursday, end of pay period.
AIG has learned to stay under the radar but not doing RIF all at once. I am a 20 plus year veteran and they will continue mid 2019 I am told. No unit is safe from RIF's AIG is not writing many business as they did before. Also with the extensive wildfires in CA was is our exposure? I am sure it will be a few hundred million dollars. They have a target number and they will meet that number by mid 2019 once the smoke clears what will be left to manage. Good luck
Divulging any specific names will cost the manager his or her job and future severance. The subtle schedule changes or earlier project completion dates reveal the date of the rif. The company has refined their procedure in the last 8 years to efficiently cut the workforce without appearing on the radar. Most layoffs occur mid-morning. Make it past Friday and you'll be there in 2019.
is there a clue or a way to know if someone is on the rif list - meaning, are managers sending out meeting planners or some equivalent or is it just a tap on the shoulder?
