I don't necessarily agree that Unisphere was a good acquisition. Juniper was thriving before Unisphere. We didn't need "new life". We were good at what we did. There was nothing on the product side of the Unisphere acquisition that was good for Juniper. ERX was ultimately killed. SDX never took off. I feel Juniper spent a lot of time integrating ERX BRAS functionality into JUNOS, which was a major contribution to the destabilization of the OS. There were a lot of very good people at Unisphere that became Juniper people, but the products were sub-standard and made Juniper lose focus on what it did best. Just my opinion, but I feel the Unisphere acquisition made Juniper lose focus on the simplicity and integrity of JUNOS. And here we are today....
If the lay off news TRUE, I would expect Juniper leaders and employees must not reward them selves with any stock/bonus. It is not ethical practice to layoff bunch of employees and reward themselves.
People who monitor can argue that the US culture is to hire and fire. If this is the case, everyone should start their own company and shouldn't work for managers/leaders.
That salary and compensation data is so shocking and depressing... All these execs get paid giant salaries to make bad decisions and f*ck us all up.
Thanks for sharing, but I recommend you don't look at this data because it will make you sad and angry.
Take a look at the exec compensation,
https://www1.salary.com/Rami-Rahim-Salary-Bonus-Stock-Options-for-JUNIPER-NETWORKS-INC.html
I think laying off them and hiring some one who can work $500k total compensation can save atleast 200 jobs. They don't deserve that much salary and no one at juniper deserver more than 200k pay.
Yes, RR, AA, VT, AK, AN all must be laidoff.
Why not the execs get laid off?
What's so fake about it? You should talk to an attorney who knows labor laws in your state and act accordingly.
Fake for sure..
Sharing this information on the need to sign termination papers...
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/do-you-have-to-sign-termination-papers
It will be great if everyone who is laid off, talks to a lawyer and the sues the c-ap out of Juniper next week. Keep in mind being laid off is NOT the same as being fired because it is not considered to be the fault of the employee. It is, actually, the fault of the employer. A layoff is often called a "reduction in force" or "down-sizing" and usually more than one employee loses their job.
https://www.job-hunt.org/layoffs/laid-off-or-fired.shtml
Think of 3 months as the standard. A little more if you’ve been here 10+ years or higher levels.
No idea what the severance packages are going to look like... I am guessing 2 weeks - 2 months.
Speaking of CMO burning up some lies... check this out. What people like him get away with these days is the reason Juniper has layoffs. These kinds of lies makes you lose trust in corporate America...

Agree there are many but they are all subdued this week - the stress leading up to next week must be too much to bear. Hope no one goes over the top, as they get are all knotted up inside.
Does anyone know what kind of severance package can be expected this time around?
Well @WWP2WVy-5cwj - that really narrows it down...Which arrogant director in marketing? There is too many...
The whole lot should be cleaned out.... Never seen such a bunch of self-serving political animals who do little work and yet get paid a lot of money for doing nothing..
The wait is causing so much stress.. the arrogant director in marketing is about to snap. The CMO is feeling the burn too.
What goes around, comes around.
T-minus 9 days to work force reduction day, will be a sad day with many good people affected
It will be really sad to see Westford winding down, leave alone shutdown. The acquisition of the Unisphere team in Westford was not only the most successful, given that most, if not all other acquisitions have failed, or juniper has successfully run then down into the ground. In fact, you could say with Westford shutting down, Juniper has a perfect track record running every business that they acquired off the road. It must be noted that the people who came in through Unisphere and their products and customers gave new life to the Juniper. In fact, this has to be one of the few successes in juniper's rocky history of acquisitions.
Please, take a look for yourself...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_acquisitions_by_Juniper_Networks
This list doesn't even include more recent acquisitions - BTI and now HTBase. It won't be long before these will get completely obliterated too.
Yes. Westford will be wound down during the first half of 2019.
It's just nonsense about Wfd closing now. They still have to deliver 5G!
Some guys here can hate me for advice on growing up, but guys, isn't it the truth that at the end, we, not juniper is responsible for our families? Most of you can find jobs once you decide to pop your head out of the comforting sand you've gotten into. For those that are not employable currently, spend time to upskill. No company exists to provide you a lifetime guarantee of salary.
Westford is closing news is a lie spread by some folks in this website. It is not possible to just close down something abruptly.
I heard Westford is closing.
It is engineering managers who should be fired, not the ICs who are doing real work. The ratio of ICs/manager is very low in Juniper which is an indication of bloated management. Easily 25% of engineering managers can be fired with no impact on work. This is especially true in the Westford office where most managers are clowns. In fact, without these clowns, ICs would be more productive.
I think the Engineering should take the more hit now. This is just to be fair as seen by the engineering management on how much they screwed.
You missed one other option, @WWP2WVy-1jca: building a wall along the southern border and putting everything on hold until the individual contributors agree to pay for it.
#dumb--s
@WWP2WVy-1arm Not sure of a better way, but a couple of different ways do exist. One is becoming People's Republic of America & the second option is Union of American Socialist Republics.
I completely agree with @WWP2WVy-1zdl.....its time to man up, boys.
I heard 1/16 as well a couple of times from different people.
Yes I would rather hear who is going down on whom.
And we’re all on the chopping block constantly at Juniper so everyone lives and spends accordingly. No prom dresses are skipped. Great heart-wrenching narrative but come on. Everyone at juniper either knows they can find an equal paying job within the severance time or you keep a big a$$ war chest to live for 12 months. I’m not saying this is the best managed company in the world but grow up.
How to get more revenue after laying off sales account managers and systems engineers?
Relax @WWP2WVy-1aah what I said is clear, of all the areas that will be impacted the most are going to be PLM, SEs and AMs and the hardest of all that will be hit the most is going to be GTM (AMs & SEs)
Don't believe this... You say hardest hit are PLM, SEs and AMs. Then you say GTM hit hardest of all. Which is it? Make up your mind... I mean lies. :)
PLM is not in GTM
SEs and AMs are
Nope, I don't believe this is credible.
Anyone else know what's going down?
Or who is going down on who?
I am so sad to hear this because the number of people who are affected by these types of cuts go far beyond the number who lose their jobs at Juniper... The number includes immediate family members spouses, children, and parents of these employees. Sometimes children can't attend the university they want, have the prom dress they like or have a vacation they waited for. These are the circumstances that make me think the id--ts that run this company down into the ground with their bad decision making should be the ones punished.... And not the innocent hardworking individual contributors who always end up paying the price. F*ck! There's got to be a better way.
Our manager told us it's all going down on 1/16/19 in the US and rest of world around the same time. Notifications start on the 16th. Largest area that will be hit are PLM, SEs and AMs, GTM getting hit the hardest of all.
