Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Fedex Service Alert email?

I don’t want to be paranoid but I received an email from Fedex today stating that there has been a service disruption. From reading this thread I’ve noticed that can sometimes be a precursor to being laid off. Could this be the case or is it just a fluke? Would really appreciate if any could confirm wif they also got the email or if it means anything?

These days, if you do not have CUSTOMER goodwill, you have NO goodwill. Keep arguing the semantics, but the result is the same. Oracle is thoroughly detested in today’s marketplace. Prove that wrong!

GAAP requires that the goodwill on the balance sheet actually corresponds to real value and that it be assessed at least annually. Since oracle has destroyed any such value it needs to get off the balance sheet. Keep up with the accounting rules. Companies can no longer keep goodwill on their balance sheets just because they booked them when they made an acquisition or what not, has to correspond to real value, which in oracle’s case it does not.

"Keeping it on the books is misleading and thus fraudulent"

No, it's not. It's pretty clear that you have zero understanding of accounting principles or what a balance sheet is.

"You can argue about the word or how it is or isn’t an accounting thing. The fact is that Oracle has one of the worst reputations for customer service"

As true as that might be, "customer goodwill" is not a line item on a balance sheet, and has never been.

You can argue about the word or how it is or isn’t an accounting thing. The fact is that Oracle has one of the worst reputations for customer service, for licensing shenanigans and for treating employees like dirt. They thought they would always have product lock-in, would always have the best DB products, and that buying a sh--load of unrelated companies to create a full slate of business “solutions” would forever insulate them. Wrong, wrong and hell to the no.

Keeping it on the books is misleading and thus fraudulent - write it off as oracle had zero goodwill anywhere. Put a huge liability for hate-will on the balance sheet

"Goodwill" is considered GAAP, so it's not considered "accounting fraud". Overpaying for an acquisition might be foolhardy, but it isn't fradulent.

Well, that just plain sounds like another accounting fraud then

"Oracle has just about zero customer goodwill on the balance sheet"

There is such a thing as "goodwill" on corporate balance sheets, but it has nothing to do with customer goodwill. From wikipedia:

"Goodwill in accounting is an intangible asset that arises when a buyer acquires an existing business. ... The goodwill amounts to the excess of the "purchase consideration" (the money paid to purchase the asset or business) over the total value of the assets and liabilities."

In other words, it's the amount you overpaid when you acquired a business.

“Oracle is here to make money. Money talks, BS walks!!!!”

Oracle has two, count ‘em, two of the highest paid CEOs on the list.

Oracle has just about zero customer goodwill on the balance sheet, from years of abusive licensing and customer service policies. Goodwill in the marketplace is something intrinsic but worth is uncalculable. Lose that and you can destroy your business. This is why Land O Lakes has decided to drop support for Iowa’s Steve King, just to name one example, and why customer boycotts work.

Oracle paid millions in salaries and bonuses and gawd knows what else to buy talent when they realized that they were screwing up the Cloud royally.

Point is that all public companies are in it to “make money”. It’s how you SPEND it that counts.

Get back to work. Its just a normal email from Fedex, not from Oracle. Oh, yeah, you also received an email from Oracle to update your work/home address too. Everyone has a number, when your number is up...so be it. Life if more than just Oracle and a paycheck.
