Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

Micron CEO (aka A-HOLE) on how the company plans to stay ahead of the semiconductor slump

But Mehrotra, who took the helm as president and CEO last year, isn't stressing about that. He says he's focused on the future, including a new San Jose campus that allows it to hire hundreds of additional employees in the city.

Mr CEO must really hate the Boise folks! This valley is going to be hosed in years to come. Everyone is moving here, needs a job once here and Micron is cutting the workforce. Once the construction slows this place is going to become a ghost town.

You make a good point. Micron is no longer the main or only game in town anymore. There are lots of jobs available in the valley. Part of the problem is that some employees are so used to coming to work to do nothing and get paid for it that the thought of having to interview and and train in a new job is too scary. Another problem is that the day is going to come sooner or later. You have no choice unless you are rich and can retire. Why wait to the end to do something about your future?

As far as "this valley is going to be hosed in years to come." Truth is, Micron isn't that relevant here anymore. Their reputation has deteriorated over the years and frankly there are many jobs here now...They are not the only show in town. Its a shame what micron has done in regards to the local community...nobody will miss them when gone.

What is sad to see is the"hangers on" who have been given a departure date next year and are still not even looking for another job right now. Like Micron is going to take care of them by coming in at the last minute to save their jobs. All this loyalty to a company who will almost surely let them go long before that date. If you are one of those who is going to ride it out I guess you are planning to retire after Micron kicks your a-s to the curb.Ah. good luck with that plan. Loyal to the end huh?

I totally agree with VUI2IZT-6ins.

It is not a place that can work in and contribute to.

Better to look for a new job before you being axe.

@VUI2IZT-5jmo you nailed Micron to a tee. Micron is an extremely stressful place to work. You constantly have to worry about your job. No one wants to help anyone because that would cut into their numbers. What kind of company has layoffs right after record profits and huge stock buybacks? The worst kind of company.

If you really need to get rid of some bad employees, then the performance bell curve gives you a path to do so. Problem is what if everyone in your group is good?. Then you are forced to give good employees a poor performance. This forced ranking causes employees to "look out for themselves" and be less likely to help others. It also causes low moral and distain for the company. In my opinion, it doesn't work and is detrimental long term to the company. Once the good employee is gone, the supervisor is forced to pick up the slack and spend long hours doing his job and/or training a replacement. Sometimes the supervisor doesn't get a replacement. I know several supervisors who quit or moved to a different position because if this ongoing BS.

Why don't you see anything about this layoff that just went down (last 2 weeks of Oct. 2018). Sanjay and VP's haven't said anything. The layoff was done under the guise of 'poor performer's yet the performance bell curve bs was mandatory. I know several people who have always been 4' and 5' and were forced to be a 2 and then let go last week. It seems long time employees were targeted as well. 25+ year veterans who have given most of their adult life to this company that is making record profits, who stuck around through some of the sh--tiest times at that place get kicked to the curb when things are good. More politics. FUUUUUUUUUCK MICRON!

If you work at Micron and are white, your days are numbered. Look how many 'cultural celebrations' there have been since Sanjay took the helm...all Indian. None Asian, none black, definitely none white. He'll, how many nationalities outside of Indian have been hired to high end VP/managerial positions? Almost 0. And not to mention all the the money he is dumping into India. F*** India. When is the last time you called tech support and got connected to India and was happy afterwards or they were able to resolve your problem? Give me a break.

I suppose more of his friends and family live in the San Jose area so it would be easier for them to get hired and displace the less desirables.

You knew it would get bad when Sanjay created a Micron “fist pump”.
