I'm no longer a "Remaining Full-Time Faculty", but I would like to mention that there was no "layoff meeting", so there was no need to "drag me" and hence no use for any "screaming". (How efficient!) When I was laid-off (effective October 2017), they notified me on the phone when I was at home and had a class to teach later that day. And that was it. No meetings and no exit interview.

Teaching is no longer rewarding especially behind a computer.

My wife thinks I am wasting my time spending long hours behind the screen.

So she hands me a list of Honey do list to complete before she come home from real work.

I am tired being mentally abused by students, Devry management and lately by the wife . It is not fun anymore. Only my cat likes me but does not listen to my rumblings.

I need to disappear, do not know where. Any suggestions!

@1zbc—if you think working at a community college is a lighter work load than working at DeVty, you are mistaken.

I love all of the things I'm doing for DeVry. I have wonderful coworkers, hardworking students, classes I enjoy, and the opportunity to help students all around the country thanks to WebEx and DeVryTutors.com. However, that does not solve the problems of untrustworthy upper management, countless unproductive hours every week commuting between faraway campuses and centers, being associated with a once great institution whose name now evokes pity or disdain, valid concerns regarding the future under new ownership, and a list of other grievances that have materialized over time.

I am currently considering an offer from a local community college. I would take a step down in title and a huge decrease in pay, but this opportunity gives me everything else for which I have been wishing. Tenure, lighter workload, influence over my work assignments, no more long commutes between multiple locations, an employer who genuinely cares for its community, strong support for scholarship, resources and opportunities for professional development, full control over the content of my courses, and multiple career path options. The only reason that I would stay with DVU would be the paycheck, but with the likelihood of us all losing our jobs in the next couple of years, that does not seem like a wise reason to stay. A smaller paycheck is better than no paycheck, especially when it comes with so many other positives.

It is not an easy choice, but I hope this gives hope that there are alternatives to settling for the state that DVU has imposed upon us. There are better things to come for those who believe in our own ability to achieve success and our worthiness to prosper. DeVry will take everything it can from you; don't let it take away your dignity or your personal power.

E 11.

I do not pretend I like the environment. I just do not let it get to me. I tolerate it. The compensation is worth the aggravations.

To me DeVry is a job like any another, my passion for teaching is being directed outside DeVry where I volunteer for a nonprofit organization. I will bend backward to help any one that asks for it but will not take the initiative.

I run a nonprofit entity. I still publish scientific papers and attend conferences. I still apply and receive grants from the National Science Foundations to do research, but I do not use DeVry name or give DeVry any credits as I do not get help from DeVry when it comes to scholarly work.

The CTE refuses to provide me with any support despite all my requests. it is fine with me, everyone is swamped with work and I empathize with all colleagues.

I am very pleased with my accomplishment and will not let DeVry mismanagement or unethical behavior ruin my peace of mind. Prior to Devry, I worked at other educational institutions. Same nonsense.

There was a moment in my life when I finally accepted that I am in charge, I make my grass green. Every day is a beautiful day.

it felt like I was born again, everything started making sense. I was liberated from the chuckles of my old archaic beliefs. The new mindset serves very well. My health and my wealth have improved considerably and my relationship with others is harmonious and smooth.

To finish let me add this quote so I do not get attacked again.

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”

― Ernest Hemingway

I strive to be superior to my former self and I wish the same to all my colleagues.

A 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

Managers made the environment so uncomfortable, expected 2x weekly long commutes (50+) miles across state lines for 3 students...disrespected or ignored all accomplishments--including, publications, conference activity, leadership/committee work. I truly went above and beyond in every aspect of my role. Still, nothing mattered. I felt continuously on the chopping block. So, I quit rather than endure another IPP. Whether this treatment constitutes "constructive discharge" is for legal minds to determine. But, the treatment was unfair, unjust, and lacked basic human decency and compassion.
