At my school, I had to correct so many students on what they were told by Admissions and what the reality is. Admissions NEVER once approached me (or my department colleagues to my knowledge) to learn the accuracies and current trends of the industry to know the proper things to tell prospective students.

Ethically, I treated it just like my adjunct colleagues at respectable state schools do: I have no contact with prospective students and thus can only tell them the brutal truths once they are in front of me. I went to one of the best art grad schools in the country and have struggled to find consistent work. If I'm struggling, you should NOT think you're going to coast through a career.

I know the students at the AI schools are told by Admissions that CS finds them jobs. I found many grads jobs during my tenure, but the majority are lazy and feel the job will be “handed “ to them. No matter how hard we tried to enstill the reality, grads did not prepare themselves for the world outside of college. The last 2 years have been especially difficult as there were many students passed through that should never have graduated. Even the non profit colleges are taking international student’s money and they get degrees with the inability to communicate. I saw many out of status rich Chinese students that didn’t seem at all worried they would be discovered. Gainful employment kept schools somewhat honest but it is all a big s show now. If you are a grad from an on ground school that can’t find a job it is your own fault... you did not choose wisely

1wtt plus one. The whole system is rotten. Probably not smart to go to a site called “The Layoff” looking for sympathy as the traffic is generally laid off people being screwed over by the organization being discussed. Btw those of you saying the students need this service or thinking about the “ long game” need the smelling salts. DCEH is in the 2 minute warning with no Haily Mary in sight....

I love Craigslist! If it weren’t for career service.

DCEH

implemented a new service model for conversations with students. The call is recorded . The company will select one call out of several and give you a negative write up about the call. They want salaries off the books. So let’s use this method and hopefully the person will just quit is their plan.

So are they cutting Career services because of gainful employment or because they are bleeding cash?

1quu- I made it clear that the Online Career Services did little. I worked for over a decade in CS. I know what the on ground schools do

@UmDRVx2-1sqz you are talking out of the side of your face. Career services at our campus were full of dedicated pros. They knew everyone in south Florida and continued to work job possibilities long after the 6 month requirement. Alumni were the best employers and carers services was amazing connecting everyone. We have grads all over the area. They will be missed as we close the doors. Thank you to so many!!!

Online Career Services is a joke. All they do is cut and paste jobs from Indeed and ones they take from on ground schools that actually created a relationship with an employer.

On the day after DOE eliminates the gainful employment rule? So shady. DCEH clearly is out of money and looking to cut wherever they can, no thought being given to the long game or what will happen when the next administration brings back oversight.

Are they going to remove all career services and just keep online? Any insight? The students need this service. It's so valuable
