Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

How low did we fall...

What does it say about CenturyLink if somebody who has been here for close to three decades is praying to be laid off?

Once upon a time this was a really good place to work at, with management that appreciated its employees and their hard work. Those days are long gone and I don't see them ever coming back.

I paid my dues and I just want out now.

The inadequacy of MAX is what they wanted when they cut to it, and its what they are getting... Best thing ever to make up for that no-Christmas, or $1000 tax bonus that so many companies gave in '17.... Have made my bonus in multitudes this year, already, and thanks to MAX!!! Not to mention, numbers look fantastic to shareholders!!! Life is good :)

25 years experience in Broadband from T-1 to 100 GIG circuits , laid off with no notice , don't tell me I am lazy , ndot tell me I don't know the business don't tell me good riddance , Don't tell me an Fing thing until you have stood in my shoes . don't tell me I was overpaid because I was not I was underpaid compared to many peers. When you can say you worked 2 years straight at 60 -70 hours a week building a national network from Pulling fiber cable through a chase to the 15 floor to splicing 96 count splice cases in the wind , rain , dust and heat , when you have run 48 fiber jumpers and tesetd each path / connection when you have made and terminated 100's of DS3 Coax connections, when drove 150 miles in the middle of the night to splice a fiber to reset rectifiers , when you have helped map circuits with the provisioners then tell me I don't know what I am talking about or worth to to " Share fing holder value "

Well those shareholders should try and come out and work with broken systems, databases and non maintained infrastructure for a few weeks. Then they would have something pertinent to discuss over their golf games with each other then discuss how many more employees to fire to boost their already inflated numbers. More like board of directors then share holders really they flip shares by market manipulation anyway.

Storey is best thing to happen to CTL. Lots of low hanging fruit to rid of which improves shareholder value.

Pre-merger CTL had it too good at the expense of shareholders.

Same 30 year people that spend more time trying to find a way out of doing a job then it would take to just do it then lose a customer in the process and then want to b--ch how screwed up the company is. Same ones that don’t don’t do this, don’t do that for years but everything is management and the company’s fault when things get rough. Same people that wouldn’t know how to treat a customer if the customer service bible fell in their laps. Same people that have been doing sh-- work and giving sh--ty customer service for 30 years. Either grow with the changes and spend your last years doing what you should of from day 1 or do everyone a favor and take a VSPP. Companies don’t fail over night! Years and years of lazy no good bums (both craft and management, but more craft) are responsible for that. I could write a novel of all the BS I’ve heard from fellow employees, coworkers (mostly the senior people) over the years and title it “How to Destroy a Company From The Inside”. You got ding dongs posting about pots, REALLY!!! You been in a dark cage in a cellar for the last 15 years? Pots didn’t take a sudden decline. Where were you when we made the transition to a “Broadband Company” about 15 years ago??? I hear the “young guys” complaing about how lazy and uncaring the “30 year guys” are and they see who the real problem is around here and it isn’t “Max”! This is not “Judy’s Muffin Shop”, company has been in the “corporate rat race” for 50 to 60 years now like any other publicly traded company. As for talent and skill lol. Only people with that are the people that have under 20 years and even that is a stretch. The people that actually know how to use a HST and the web tools available to them. The ones that don’t use a sidekick every day to fix a stand alone DSL line.Place isn’t on lock down and anyone can voluntarily leave so good riddance!

Wow. That’s bad. It’s plain to see that talent and skill are no longer appreciated officially at ctl.

It's not just the three decade guys. The young CSTs in my area all want out. Nobody in CST with more than 7 years with us. Two said they woukd go voluntary and were told no. They are all sending resumes out daily. The more the SRO busts their balls about their numbers the more they want out. MAX rules us now and is responsible for the bad numbers but yet they blame us. We can only do what MAX tells us to do.

Then it was all about call the customer, call the customer. Now we are told DON'T call the customer use Buzz. Some of us were told use Buzz AND call the customer. They change the rules daily.

Make Misc tickets they say when there is ni work in MAX to make the numbers look good. Now, it's DON'T make Misc tickets cause our numbers are too good and they think we have too many techs.

No win situation. Moral is as low as i have ever seen. Even the SRO has a who cares attitude. Sinking ship.

What fell was the use of POTS but in some areas all you get for internet is DSL . Miles and miles of unused POTS lines . People are using cell phones as their primary means of communication. The legacy side of CenturyLink continues to loose money . At one Time QWEST ( National Long Haul ) racked up a $24 Billion debt , where did that debt go ? this was before being bought by CenturyLink. Now That the master of Merger By-out Level 3 is in charge there will be no compassionate employer employee relationship. Level3/ WilTel /Broadwing/ Qwest/ Embarq / CenturyLink/ whatever is left is just numbers game now. Make it look like it is slashing , cutting, saving , profitable and then CEO Jeff Story will be leaving in about 5 years. " I need to spend time with my family on my Yacht in the Greek Islands " or something .... CenturyLink has joined the Corporate rat race it will continue to expand , contract , buy , sell through each consecutive CEO and change names every decade.
