Thread regarding Sears layoffs

If Sears' demise caught you by surprise....

You might be what's known as a "Sheeple"

A sheeple is someone who spends their nights watching reality TV, sports, and utterly useless entertainment while the world burns around them, then when the fire reaches their door they scream murder as if some shock event happened.

No, only a shock to you because you're fast asleep at the wheel....

The company was in trouble 30 years ago. To those who back stabbed and plotted to get where they are today- my congrats to you .

Plenty of people who go to college work at Sears. Just like plenty of people who go to high school work at sears. what dont you understand? I guess you worked at a $60,000 a year job right out of elementary school or did daddy and mommy pay for everything in your life?

WTF would you go to college and take out student loans to work at a sears store?

Believe it or not there are people who need this job to support themselves and who still think that SHC is transforming. I am not one of those but I work with a few people who have been around a few years and all have either just bought new cars, new homes or taken expensive vacations. Everyone has tried to tell them to save their money but no one listens.

The ones I feel sorry for are some of the young people who just started and who are in college or just got out of college. We were in the break room the other day and one of the students was talking about when she would get her raise so that she could pay her student loan off quicker and buy a car. We all looked at her like she was joking. We told her we havent had raises in years and she was upset because when they hired her they told her that after 6 months she would get an increase of .50 and then another raise at the year mark. Should have seen the look on her face when she realized we weren't joking.

If Sears went bankrupt it wouldn't affect me in anyway honestly. As @Ud4PzAL-suw if you live off Sears as your primary sources of income its a shame on you for not leaving the company because its going to be tough to find a good job in the end. A lot of people are going to find it tough when the company goes under because at this point its on life support it has no future the debt is all high and their isnt much collateral at this point.

In my store I would say out of maybe the 50 remaining workers we have left 40 need the job and the other 10 are like whatever (they have other sources of income, school etc). Aint gona look pretty when the company goes under which could be finally this year.

The events that are unfolding at SHC right now should be of no surprise to anybody. If you have been following the state of things here at SHC since 2012, which is when the eventual demise became more evident, none of what's happening or none of what has happened should be of any surprise. The ONLY people who should work for SHC at this point are high school students, college students, wives looking to supplement their husband's income, retirees looking to supplement their retirement, pension or social security (I'm in this category) or young people fresh out of school looking to get some experience for a better job. At this point, absolutely NO ONE should be relying a job with SHC to provide for their families, put a roof over their head or food on the table.

Absolutely NO ONE should take a job or continue to hold a job with SHC if they do not have something to fall back on or if they "need" a job. EVERYONE who works for SHC should be prepared for the eventual demise of their unit, whether that be a store, a warehouse or a corporate office, and should already have a contingency plan in place. It's a good idea to always have a contingency plan in place regardless of the company you are employed by, and that contingency plan could be as something as simple as keeping your resume updated and staying active within your network.
