Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

I've been laid off three times in two years.

I started as a CPAM (Copy & Print Account Manager) in 2014. Everything was great until 2017 when I was laid off in the first wave (February 2017). I was called back just a month after the layoff and returned as a PMAC (Print & Marketing Account Consultant - the new name for a former CPAM). I worked with new hope as Sycamore acquired Staples later in the year. But, I was again laid off right before Christmas during the second wave (November 2017).

I then applied as a B2B and got the job without any interview in January of this year. Last month, my area moved to a territory model, and nine out the 10 B2Bs in my area were let go in favor of just one B2B, now known as a Territory Sales Manager.

I'm not coming back again. I've always been a near top salesperson, and there's no reason I can't replicate my success somewhere else.

Goodbye Staples and Sycamore, and good luck.

@UcDtgKK-alpb, the original did mention how he or she only went a month between being laid off and hired again on both occasions, so clearly that person didn't have time to really go through the motions of finding another job.

But, you know... reading comprehension....

Why did you come back to begin with?! Obviously couldn't get a job elsewhere

Good luck to you. I'll just sit here and collect my commission payment

I don't want to lose my anonymity, but I was in the mid-west and we weren't part of the model. One area in the west was "modeled," but ironically they haven't let everyone go on their teams to my knowledge.

It's possible there's more to the pilot than initially presented because, like I mentioned in my original post, my former territory was just "moved" to the model. No warning like with the actual pilot areas.

Perhaps it's now being officially labeled a model. Someone still on the inside will have to confirm this for me, though.

Was your B2B territory the new pilot model?

What territory were you in?

Territory models are the new culture. It is simple, carve up strict territory's and Sycamore will be able to move out well over half of the sales force. Move business to the inside. If its worth over 1 mil, outside sales handle it.

There are not enough 1 mil plus accounts to justify numerous outside sales folks.

Cut, Gut and sell the remains. This is the heart of Sycamore Partners.

B2B positions will be eliminated in a big way under the so called "new, territory model".

I hate this damn company!

Some may say: “this is just business.” No, it is substandard leadership and arrogance at the highest levels. I worked for this company for many years and left after coming to the conclusion that they are determined to fail. The leaders are like a plague of locusts. They devour everything till nothing is left and then move on to the next company to do the same. Best of luck to you at your new company. You will find things are very different elsewhere.

A very frustrating situation for sure. You will do great things wherever you land next.
