Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Excuse for more layoffs

How many people will be laid off to pay for the acquisition of HiTouch? How badly did we need to buy it right now, anyhow?

It looks to me like just another convenient excuse to lay off more people.

They are letting about 300 HiTouch workers go. They are offering a severance package but they are still devastating peoples lives. Some of them have been employed for 20 years and are being let go.

"I don't need this site to regurgitate public information."

@TS0CqJv-1hce, I'm a little confused. You say you don't care for the valid, public information on the site, but dismiss the private information as "rumors that trolls are trying to start."

If you're responsible for the prior post that mentioned the above quote, then there'd be no real way of satisfying your need. If someone other than you posted that quote, then that proves people visits the site for different reasons, and those reasons will collide with one another.

I can understand your frustration, @TS0CqJv-1urd.

However, except for the opinions, the question and answer, and the jabs, the HiTouch information found here is all true (so far), so you can have confidence that people do still trade valuable information. So far, the valuable information states:

  1. Staples-Sycamore is acquiring HiTouch.

  2. HiTouch will further centralize their operations in favor of Staples, as Staples employees already manage HiTouch accounts, and has for years.

  3. The HiTouch acquisition is similar to the Corporate Express acquisition, and other past M&Es, and serve the same purpose.

  4. The SAL layoff isn't what everyone thinks it is.

That sounds like some good info if you ask me, however true it all is. Yes, you have to filter out the junk, but it's easy to find the juice.

@TS0CqJv-ovv you didn't ask me but I'll share what I expect. I expect to read about rumors that people have heard. All I get here is rumors that trolls are trying to start. People posting in bad faith to either somehow hurt the company they hate or make employees uneasy is useless.

HiTouch is going to be laying off a portion of their salesforce as it integrates with Staples. HiTouch IS NOT going to be replacing Staples employees. Quite the opposite.

Plus, SALs already have "HiTouch" accounts, and have for years. What do you think that meant when they said ABC Company is a "high touch account?"

Actually, SALs aren't going anywhere. They're just breaking up high-level SALs into functional SALs. I'm not sure if you're aware, but the SAL organization added SALs as follows:

  • SAL has a portfolio of $11 million and 10% of the accounts generates 90% revenue.

  • 90% of that SAL's accounts goes to a functional SAL (there's a different name for this position) or goes back to inside and outside AC's.

  • The SAL and his or her team is centralized (layoff).

Now, though the SAL team may experience a reduction (this already happened), new high-paid positions now exist in other areas of the business (i.e. inside teams, third-parties - Verizon is an example of a Staples managed account that has outsourced account management).

However, as the business development team cranks up, laid off SALs and all new SALs will be re-added as accounts grow.

In a statement, Douglas described the HiTouch acquisition as a win for both companies, with Staples lending scale to HiTouch and HiTouch bringing the sales organization that Staples needs right now.

"bringing the sales organization that Staples needs right now"

Enough said - Layoffs are a sure bet! Because Staples DOES NOT HAVE an effective sales organization.

Old guard directors, managers and SALs - here comes the axe!

@TS0CqJv-diy, if you don't mind me asking, why do you visit this site? Considering the site is about expressing "news, personal experiences, rumors and speculations about layoffs at your company," according to the site's "about" page, what were you expecting when making the decision to browse a site called "The Lay Off?"

I'm not trying to be snarky. I genuinely want to know, as you seem offended by the general attitude towards Staples.

so... nothing Staples does is right... correct? They can't win in your eyes and you want them to fail and put everyone out of work. Got it... you complete losers...
